Wishlist Wednesday Part 1: December 1st-8th

I have a banner now. Thank you to friend and fellow podcast host JD for the banner, and Fiverr for the Possum art!

Welcome back to Wishlist Day! As I had a rough week last week due to medical and technical reasons. I am almost a *check notes* week late on this. Ope. The good thing is there are lots of games to make up for it. So many games that I am splitting this up into three parts for the sake of the readers. Starting off is nine games from the first week of December.

Wishlisting games on Steam is very important to indie developers! Adding a game to your Steam wishlist makes the algorithm favor said games. Since this is the case, it’s my pleasure to highlight games that most may not know about. I try to feature newly released games, games exiting early access, and newly announced games. That stated I do the research for this entirely on my own and I’m definitely going to miss games!

Alright, let’s start on this list!

Kiss the Demiurge

Minori is a mage tasked with hiding magic from the world. She has spurned love in the pursuit of her mission. One day she meets a group of three girls obsessed with magic. Will she stop them from discovering real magic? Or will she fall for their charms? Find out in this dramatic girls-love story.

A dark, mostly kinetic, Yuri visual novel. I believe the only choice is which one of the three girls’ players romance. I like what one reviewer says—”… a western visual novel about magic, overcoming trauma and most importantly: girls holding hands.” It clocks in at about ten hours to play all three notes. Please note the word dark in the first sentence. This story goes into some bleak places and is not for the faint of heart.

Munchkin Digital

Kill the monsters & grab the loot in the classic card game!

Munchkin was such a formative part of my formation as a geek. I grew up in a small suburb of Ohio and was very lonely growing up. When I discovered Dork Tower in 5th grade by John Kovalic, I honestly felt *seen* for the first time in my young life. And then it turned he drew a card game? It was almost too much for me.

Munchkin was indeed one of the first juggernauts on the newly emerging board game scene. I haven’t kept close tabs on it in recent years, but I am aware of it spanning countless versions, a board game, and so much more. It seems appropriate that it now has a digital version, though it begs the question of why it took so long. Do people even still play Munchkin these days? Regardless, it’s perfect for those who it fills with nostalgia. Do note, the game still has some issues to iron out according to the reviews, but hey, it’s Munchkin on your PC and it looks great!

Super Kiwi 64

Super Kiwi 64 is a 3D-Platformer and Collect-a-Thon, in a low poly late 90s console look.

A quality game for $2.99? Sign me up. Super Kiwi 64 is essentially a 3D platformer and collect-a-thon in the style of yes, you guessed it, 3D platformers from the Nintendo 64 era. I know it took great leaps in logic to make the connection, but that’s why I do this for you all.

Seriously though, from what I’ve heard, it’s great. Super Kiwi 64 is short, clocking in one hour to do everything. That said, for the time it takes up, it provides an enjoyable experience. Really though, is a short game a bad thing? Plus, you play as a low poly Kiwi. Who doesn’t want that?

Burnhouse Lane

Burnhouse Lane tells a story of Angie Weather, a one foot in the grave agency nurse attempting to complete five impossible tasks in order to win her life back. Solve puzzles, make friends and enemies, run, hide and fight in this dark adventure that'll take you on a trip to another world and back...

The Cat Lady person is back with a new horror game! The game touts a mix of point-and-click, choose-your-own-adventure, and light survival horror mechanics. I’m a weenie and have played none of Harvester Games’ games. Still, I know these games have a cult classic following, and bet there are folks excited to have a new entry out!

Warlords Under Siege

Warlords Under Siege is a mix of RTS and Roguelike genre, where you build a small city and defend it against continuous waves of enemies. Improve your assortment of weapons with each playthrough, unlocking new possibilities to beat the ever-increasing threat.

A bite-sized early-access roguelike real-time strategy game that already has tons of re-playability and, based on reviews, a winning gameplay loop. Build a small town, defend it against endless waves until you can’t anymore, and then reap the rewards of unlocking new things for the next game. As someone who grew up with Age of Empires and Majesty, I am very intrigued by this. Even better, there are card-based mechanics too. I don’t quite know how they work, but I like card-based mechanics!

Spacewreck

A Fallout-inspired post-apocalyptic RPG in space with an extreme focus on role-playing. Inch wide, miles deep - intentionally short yet surprisingly deep and branching adventure with multiple gameplay styles. Combat 100% optional.

Launching into early access is this Fallout-inspired RPG. There are a fair number of those out there, but this one caught my interest as 1) it focuses on roleplaying with combat being optional and 2) it’s on the short side, which as a busy adult is quite welcome. Plus, looking at the trailer, I quite dig the look and feel of the game. Reminds me a little bit of Sierra’s old franchise Space Quest.

Solar Ash

From the creators of the award-winning Hyper Light Drifter comes the high-speed and gravity-bending world of Solar Ash.

The minds behind the beloved Hyper Light Drifter did another game. It looks trippy as heck. I’ll be honest with ya’ll, I don’t have much to say! It’s the Hyper Light Drifter people, you know it’s a good time.

Crawl Tactics

Crawl Tactics is a unique hybrid of tactical RPG and roguelike. Manage a party of adventurers and use the environment to your advantage to conquer the dungeon.

Tired of your tactical RPGs having too much story, and just want that experience of puzzle solving an encounter turn-based tactical RPG style? Crawl Tactics has you covered. Part tactical RPG, part roguelike, the game procedurally generates dungeons for players to crawl through. Given that there are games where I stopped progressing the plot because I preferred random battles, I definitely see the appeal and think this is a neat idea.

Chained Echoes

Take up your sword, channel your magic or board your Mech. Chained Echoes is a 16-bit style RPG set in a fantasy world where dragons are as common as piloted mechanical suits.

Last but not least features Chained Echoes. Mithrandiel reviewed it here, and enjoyed it!

Look for part 2 in the next couple days!
