Wild Woods [Review]

Wild Woods, developed by Octofox Games and published by Daedalic Entertainment, combines elements of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Overcooked into one hectic and surprisingly difficult action “party-ish” game for up to 4 players. Players must work together to protect a wooden wagon as they travel through the forest. During the day, players gather resources to keep the wagon going and to prepare for the dangers of the night. Wild Woods keeps players alert with the option to choose how they want to tackle their journey in a rogue-lite fashion. Players can decide the tough route for more rewards or go the easier route if things get too rough.

Wild Woods has tons of replayability and is an absolute blast to play with friends. Players can play couch co-op and also bring couch co-op friends online for multiplayer. During our playthrough, we beat the game in about an hour and a half and then went back through it again. The game has cool character customization with different cat skins and has a unique art style. I like that the train is like your home base, which you can always use to get through the level. You can also upgrade the train and add stuff to the cart to make the game easier. The game is still in early access, so there's definitely room for improvement. The game has a fun isometric look but needs more content. Wild Woods will have a lot more content drops for 2025, as the developers posted a roadmap, which can be seen below. An update from the roadmap has already gone live with the ability to use a ranged weapon. Other roles are being considered for the game, such as Fighter, Lumberjack, Scout, and Healer. Lastly, an Endless mode was added to the game. Let's see how long you can survive! Wild Woods is available now in early access for $14.99
