Star Wars Jedi Power Battles [Review]

Star Wars Jedi Power Battles was one of my favorite games growing up. I remember constantly playing it on my Sega Dreamcast and always getting frustrated by how hard it was. But that never stopped me from returning for more, and I always had a blast playing it with my best friend. Now, they're back at it again with the Star Wars remasters, and this time they chose a gem and added some new content as well. Players can use Darth Maul, Queen Amidala, Ki-Adi Mundi, and more from the start of the game. You can also unlock Jar Jar (I don't know why you'd want to), a Tuskan Raider, and more.

Another change is that you can select lightsaber colors now. Sadly, this is only half-baked since not every character can do it and there are really only 2 sabers per person, but it's still a new addition. The game's a beat 'em up, so the goal is to get from point A to point B, and every now, and then you'll have an objective you have to complete to progress. Gotta be honest, this game is still a huge mess. The platforming is stiff, and the combo system is seriously lacking. But even with all the problems of the original game, it's a nice trip down memory lane to see just how far we've come and how hard games used to be. Every blast shot hits, and you'll die if you don't block. The enemies are really good at waiting for you to drop your guard so they can shoot and kill you.

As you progress, you level up and can choose new combos for your Jedi and also get health upgrades. Sadly, characters like Queen Amidala can't get upgrades at all, but to be fair, she can one-shot enemies with her blaster, so there's a trade-off. Finally, the game is a 2-player co-op and has a battle mode. This game is a lot of fun and is fantastic to play with a friend. Sure, it's clunky and sometimes unfair, but that's just how it is. I know some people will absolutely hate this game, so I'd find a way to demo it or look at some gameplay videos before you decide to buy it. As for me, I'll be living like I'm 9 again.
