V Rising on PS5 [Review]

Excellent vampire open-world survival game V Rising comes to console.

Today saw the launch of V Rising on the PlayStation 5, just over a month after the 1.0 PC launch (reviewed here) and two years after the initial Early Access launch. I’ve now spent some time with the PS5 version and can confidently say it’s a great way to experience this awesome game.

Performance on the PS5 is buttery smooth, staying at what looks like 60fps. The game looks great, though I do wish there was a bit more to the graphics settings. Controller support is identical to the offerings on the PC version. Keyboard and mouse players might find the controls clunky, but I’ve only played using a controller and aside from a couple of odd button combinations (L2+R1 and R2+L1 for certain actions) they feel fine.

The only features that I wish had been implemented are cross-save and cross-play. Playing on the PS5 is hands-down a better experience than playing on the Steam Deck and it would have been nice to be able to move my private game with 40+ hours of playtime to the console. Another nice to have would be to allow two players to play on a single PS5 locally, but that’s lower on my list.

V Rising is one of the best survival games I’ve played, and it continues to be so on the PS5. It has a perfect mix of ARPG, crafting, and building mechanics, a killer gothic horror setting, and clever gameplay related to the vampire theme. I hope that many more players get to experience the game now that it’s on multiple platforms.

I rated the game 9/10 on PC, and my score doesn’t change here.

V Rising is available on PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5.

Overall Score: 9/10
