Lesson Learned [Review]
Lesson Learned is a somewhat tower defense-like game that was developed by MadGamesmith and published by Gaming Factory. You are protecting a moving base rather than a stationary one, like in most tower defense games. As the base moves, you and your minions have to gather resources quickly to build up towers to stop the waves of enemies from harming your base. The art style and animation are very reminiscent of Don’t Starve. It has an asymmetrical top-down point of view, and the art style is stiff and flat (almost like looking like a book illustration), with the animation being like puppets. Just like Don’t Starve.
The games play a bit similarly as well, at least when it comes to gathering resources and collecting things. Other than that, the gameplay differs, as Lesson Learn is a tower defense and not a survival game. The game is local co-op only. I want to specify this because, when looking up the game, the wording for the co-op is tricky, and the game presents itself as if it’s a four-player game. When looking at the trailer, you can see four characters working together, but they aren’t all playable characters. The game has only two players, and the other two characters are minions that you can command to gather resources.
I would much rather have two more players with me than NPC’s. The game isn’t even online either, local only. Normally I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but if I knew that when getting into the game, I would have much preferred to play the game on a console rather than a PC. Lesson Learn only has one thing going for it, and that’s the art style. That can hardly count, considering they just mimicked what worked for another game. The gameplay is repetitive, which is par for the course when it comes to tower defense. But because you're constantly moving and having to gather resources in this game, it’s a lot more noticeable. Plus, you can’t even play with more than one person to make the experience more fun. I would give Lesson Learn a 4/10 because I felt tricked into thinking it was more than two players, and I was just disappointed in the game.
