Spellbinding: Loot Anime October Haul! (Unboxing)
By: MithrandielMiss our last unboxing? You can find it here!Trick or treat? I suppose with Halloween just under a week away, it's a fair question to ask of Loot Anime's most recent delivery. With a "Spells" theme for October, Loot Crate's anime division delivers some awesome goodies this month, which we are delighted to share with you all once again. Let's take a look! This time I did do you the favor of including a banana for scale. Once again, the box is just slightly larger than a shoebox, though right away it did appear taller than last month's box. Peeling away the restrictive tape like an overexcited child on Christmas morning, I cracked it open. The first thing I looked for was the inner box art. After last month's survive pattern, I was interested to see how they carried the theme forward. The details on the tome are pretty good, though I couldn't really tell if the splotches of white were supposed to represent arcane energy of some sort crackling through the air, or if it was just flakes of paint or color that faded away. I think I would've preferred it a bit more crisp - a minor grievance. You're greeted by the two power-players of the box right off the bat: the Jojo figure and a box with the Mushi-Shi logo on it. Mushi-Shi? There's a name I haven't heard in some time..."The Cure Lies in the Curse" - is that kind of like when you nurse a hangover with beer? Wonder what's inside...Some sweet tea cups! That's what! Seriously, these things are awesome. Hold on, hold on...let me show you something - There are some awesome designs on either side of the cups, one with a closeup of protagonist Ginko, and the other with him wandering past some very dead trees. The front of the cups feature the Mushi-Shi title and slogan beneath. These were probably my favorite piece of the box. I know it's the first thing, but they have a great weight and feel to them. The packaging is spot on, and offer some great protection for the cups as well - no chipping or cracks here! A great early foray into the Spells box. We'll talk about the Jojo figure more a bit later, let's see what else is hiding beneath...A sturdy, hardcover artbook featuring pieces from legendary Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano. It's small, but it definitely has a good quality and build to it.We've got a few other little things to look at before the big reveal - including some knick-knacks. Who doesn't love knick-knacks?On the left we've got an awesome little Yume phone charm. This Yume, as I was informed shortly following our September piece, is actually Loot Anime's mascot! (Thanks for the clarification) To the right you'll spot a Noragami pin, complete with up-and-coming Delivery God Yato and hapless middle-schooler Hiyori Iki.The odds and ends are rounded out by another large poster, which features a cool theme-inspired image for the front, and a breakdown of all the "loot" on the back.Ok, looks like we've covered most of the bases. What's that? I sense a strange energy...wait a minute...Indeed - the final item in our box is none other than a pretty sweet Jojo figure from the pillar of anime-meme culture that is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Our figure is none other than Josuke Higashikata - the central protagonist of Diamond is Unbreakable, and holder of impeccable hair. The figure is pretty straight forward, simply a stand (bahaha) and the figure. It's got a good weight to it as well, and the detail is impressive. It's definitely a step up from last month's Sasuke - though this model also suffers from what I would call "Derpy Eye Syndrome". The left eye is staring off in a different direction yet again, which is unfortunate because this is definitely a solid figure otherwise. 9 times out of 10 you won't notice the imperfection, and I don't want it to detract from a largely good-quality product. This definitely holds the bulk of the value for this box, and the Mushi-Shi tea cups certainly put it over the top.Aesthetically, I was a little confused by the theme for this month. There's definitely elements of supernatural/spiritual things in the shows referenced within, but I think items from shows like Little Witch Academia or Black Clover might have filled in a bit better for a "spells" theme. Furthermore, I think last month's "Survive" theme would have done better lined up with Halloween.Overall, Loot Anime impressed me with its October lineup. The tea cups are fantastic, and the Jojo figure a definite step in the right direction when it comes to figure quality.Interested in getting this box? Make sure to order by Friday!
