Seis Manos: Sneak Peek

By Thunderheavyarm

This Thursday I was got invited by VIZ Media and Powerhouse Animation to be some of the first people to watch Netflix’s new IP, Seis Manos. The series is produced by Brad Graebar (he made the Castlevania series), Álvaro Rodríguez and written as well as produced by Daniel Dominguez. I had no idea what the show was going to be about when I first heard about it at AX. Until I watched the scene called Mal Hombre, and was immediately hooked.

The series is intended to be a melding of an anime aesthetic with the narrative feel of a classic Mexican telenovella. An odd marriage, yet the two styles work together to create a very impressive piece of art. Subtle elements of the culture, from the strumming of the guitar in the background music, help to transport you properly into the setting. The characters are also of similar build and quality to Castlevania, which is no surprise given the shared studio. Each of them feels real, as though they could be actual people, despite the overtly unbelievable situations they may find themselves in.

I’d like to get into more about the series as a whole, but I only got to see the first two episodes. It’s definitely a must see, with a killer cast, stunning choreography and bloody kills abound. Seis Manos comes out on Netflix on October 3rd, which is only a few short days away! So get your snacks and various friends and loved ones ready for a really good binge series. I know that I can’t wait for this to come out myself.

We'll be spotlighting many of the vocal talent from this series in the coming week, so be sure to stay tuned!
