Rage of the Dragons Neo [Review]
Initially released in 2002 for the NeoGeo, Rage of the Dragons became a prominent title in the fighting game genre due to its impressive visuals and fluid animations. Rage of the Dragons NEO, also released in 2002, continued the trend of SNK producing higher quality fighting games than Capcom, with true combo systems and impressively detailed sprites and sprite animations. As expected from an SNK game, Rage of Dragons is very combo-heavy; it is easy to play but difficult to master. During the time of release, games like Marvel vs. Capcom and other tag team games such as Tekken Tag and Kizuna Encounter: Super Tag Battle were very popular, and SNK was continuing this trend. Also at this time, Dead or Alive was released, featuring breakable stages allowing for stage transitions or changes to the size of the stages. Rage of Dragons Neo has breakable walls in most stages, which are not complicated to break.
As a fighting game, Rage of the Dragons comes with a few game modes players can expect, such as an arcade mode, an extensive training mode, lobbying, local multiplayer, and online play. Rage of the Dragons is now available for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Rage of the Dragons also receives a physical version for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. There is a regular edition of the game, which presumably includes only the cartridge and/or disc. Furthermore, there is also a special edition that comes with artwork, a shock box with double-sided artwork, two A4 posters, a double-sided 12” LP containing the original soundtrack, and a Blu-ray with interviews from the game's creators.
