By: Zukku

Dead by Daylight is back with their newest chapter based on the hit Netflix Original Series, Stranger Things and we are trying it out now!

Dead byDaylight is a well-knownmultiplayer horror game, in which one hunter is out for the kill and the otherfour survivors are trying to escape this terrifying nightmare. Players can takeon the role of both the killer and survivor, as they become either the hunteror the hunted.

With 16 killers and 17 survivors, this newest chapter offers an exciting new thrill for players as a new threat and two heroes enter this frightening world. As of September, a surviving Demogorgon has appeared; a new killer emerging from an inter-dimensional rift that has plagued the town of Hawken. Along with this new killer, not only one but two new survivors enter the fray; Nancy Wheeler, an aspiring journalist who will always get her scoop, and Steve Harrington, a former high school jock and known babysitter. Players are in for a treat as they try to escape this first ever creature killer in Dead by Daylight. The Stranger Things chapter also comes with a thrilling new map, the Underground Complex. Merging the much-loved aspects of Dead by Daylight and Stranger Things, survivors can try to escape this underground complex that is located below the Hawkins National Laboratory that is reminiscent of the well-received TV series.

What could possibly lurk beneath the underground complex of Hawken? Will you be able to survivor this terrifying encounter? Or will you devour your prey?

During NYCC we were able to interview Mathieu Côté ...

who spoke more about the growth of Dead by Daylight and how the series has evolved over the years. Founded in 1992, Behaviour Interactive is one of the largest independent game developers. As of 2019, Dead by Daylight celebrated 12 million players and continues to grow. He shared that, “we (Dead by Daylight development team) never expected it to be this big. Even last year, we were doing great big things with the anniversary. Even at that moment, we would not have expected a year later we would be doing something with Stranger Things and releasing it on the Switch. We are so much bigger, so who knows where we are going after this? How big can we go!?”

With that, we were curious with the introduction of the Demogorgon, their first ever creature, could this lead to the potential of new monstrosities? Mathieu laughed as he replied, “We (Behaviour Interactive and Dead by Daylight) have never had a monster before and we have also never done something that is current. We have a lot of legends from the horror world, but Stranger Things is one of the biggest things to date. However, the nostalgia factor was perfect for the Dead by Daylight lore. It is true that it’s the first monster, but it’s almost humanoid so it was easy for us to transition it in.  It’s possible that things may continue, but you will just have to wait.” While we may have to wait for the introduction of new killers and survivors, the newest chapter, Stranger Things, is available now to play on PC and Consoles.

Steve and Nancy are on the move from the horrifying Demogorgon!

At NYCC, the Dead by Daylight team was also teasing their newest endeavor!

The Dead by Daylight mobile game. Mathieu shared that the mobile game will be the exact same thing. However, one of the tricks in this newest edition was the fact that the game is dependent on audio ques. How do they translate that to all visual? Well, we got a chance to play it and was pleasantly surprised by the ease of the game play. Taking advantage of vibrations and visual ques on screen, the survivors can stay alert in a new and exciting way. While there is no set date of this edition, Mathieu stated that, “it will be released by the end of the year or early next, but once it is perfect!” Which means, longtime fans and new lovers of the series will not be disappointed. The game developers are working diligently to ensure the newest edition to the Dead by Daylight series will be worth the wait! Finally, Mathieu shared that this edition will be a free-to-play; with the release of 2 killers and 3 survivors. “A very basic offering”, however it will cost about $20.00 for one to unlock the full game; on par with the other platforms.

What’s next for The Geekly Grind and Dead by Daylight?

During out interview, Mathieu shared that their biggest holiday is coming, “Halloween is like Christmas for us, so even before the next chapter release in December, players can expect big things to come. We are going to be very generous this year. We have a lot of really cool stuff, new events, and new objectives and quests!” With all this unfolding, the Geekly Grind will be hosting Dead by Daylight streams during Spook-tober!  So, come hang out with some of the staff on Twitch as we scream our way through this spooky holiday season with new and old survivors and all the killers! Hope to see you there!

Best of luck surviving...
