Mob Psycho 100 II - Limited Edition Box Set [Unboxing + Review]

There's nothing like a great anime series to help pass the time during quarantine. Whether you went back and revisited some classics, or finally got to work playing catch-up with exhaustively long series (cough One Piece cough) the recent release of Mob Psycho 100 II on blu-ray is a worthy contender to add to your personal collection.

The Box Set

This box set is extremely well put together, starting with its hearty cardboard exterior and striking art on the front and the rear.

Inside, there are three main components: the blu-rays/DVDs, an art book, and a "filler box" which includes art cards, iron-on patches, a pin and a cell phone charm.

When it comes to the art book, I was impressed. Typically, there are some good, high-quality, glossy images inside, and maybe some character design overviews. This art book actually covers a number of topics, including the Anime NYC debut, interviews with VAs/staff, as well as a number of quality images from the show.

Also, and this might be a little thing, but the binding was very forgiving/malleable from the start. Usually it feels like trying to keep the art books open inevitably damages the binding, but it felt much more natural with the Mob Psycho art books. Overall, a hearty and well-structured addition to this limited edition set!

The other physical add-ons were all included in the "filler box":

As mentioned before, the filled box included some art cards, a pin, a phone charm and patches that you could iron on to apparel (make sure to follow the instructions!)

The patches are pretty cool, especially for the Reigen diehards. I've never been a big fan of art cards (prefer my art in book form), but the selection is very striking.

The blu-ray/DVD set itself is pretty straightforward - nothing too out of the ordinary when it comes to the disc design.

Outside of the physical goodies, there's also a short OVA, and some glimpses at how the magic comes to life with a behind the scenes animation spotlight.

Overall, this box set is of impressive quality and build. I've often lamented how thin most box sets feel these days, but this is a great example of a quality series with a full-bodied box set to match.

When it comes to the series, we've shared our thoughts before, but the long and short of it is this: Mob Psycho 100 brilliantly blends teen drama, supernatural suspense, and honest-to-goodness character development in a unique aesthetic that will keep you hooked from beginning to end. The journey that Mob goes on in season 2 in particular is beautiful to behold.
