Little Witch Nobeta [Review]

Little Witch Nobeta results from a conversation of “what if a lolli was in a soul-like world”. In this game, you play as an adorable little witch going through a sinister world filled with shadow creators and demons. She has projectiles and trusty staff at her disposal to defend herself…but that's it…no alternative weapons but it's ok though she's a witch, she can learn lots of spells, like calling comets and dark voids, right?.....Right???? RIGHT…….. NOPE. Her magic is basic. She can cast long-range lighting, Megumin (from Konosuba) style fire that eventually explodes, Very small explosion…Wind, “that's not even for attacking” and Absorption, “which is also not for attacking”, so really she has 2 attack spells. Aside from her basic attacks, not only is she a talentless witch, she is also a clumsy witch. If she runs out of stamina, she will trip and fall flat on her face. If she gets hit while in midair, she will fall flat on her face. Hell, if you get hit at all, she will find a way to slap that face on the floor.

Little Witch Nobeta has a fun story, other than the possible memory loss….. and her figuring out her past…(could be a result of slapping her face on the ground…)..but she’s is a very likable character with a lot of charm. The gameplay mechanics are pretty solid, and the game provides a lot of ways to cheese your way around the map, even with missing skills. For example, there was a spot that I clearly could not reach without double jumping or gliding. So, my solution was to jump to a high point, run, jump, and swing my weapon, causing my character to float a little bit, allowing me to float over to the platform I was trying to reach. Funny enough, the game told me of this possibility when I got there, so it was encouraged. Something I can say I do not like at all about this game is the stamina mechanic. It gives artificial difficulty to an otherwise easy game.

I recommend that anyone playing this game upgrade their stamina as much as they can. It will make for a much smoother experience for you. Much like in Breath of the Wild. Although I do say this game is easy, I did play it like a coward. I keep my distance while I charge up my energy blast and shoot it off, trying to kill two shadow monsters at the same time. If any enemy approaches me at all, I run away screaming and charge again to shoot them again, avoiding any hand-to-hand combat whatsoever. I had a blast with this game. There isn't too much to say about it. It is a slow-paste anime Loli version of Dark Souls that is very easy, where you play as a small girl who mainly uses projectiles. This game is fun and easy to pick up and play for all ages, and the best part is that it's available for the Nintendo Switch, so people can play it on the go. Same deal with Steamdeck and other handhelds. This review was done on the PlayStation 4 version of the game, although after finishing this review, I went to my local GameStop and grabbed this game physically for the Nintendo Switch. It's worth it.
