Latinx in Gaming celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month!

Hispanic Heritiage Month (Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana) starts this Thursday, September 15th, and Latinx in Gaming has some great events lined up to promote inclusivity and cultural appreciation and representation by spotlighting Latinx individuals across the games industry.

From September 15th to October 15th (and even beyond!) you can check out the following events:

Major Streaming Events:

  • #UnidosOnline
    A 3-day live-streaming fundraiser featuring everything from game development talks to Let’s Plays. This event spotlights the intersection of Latinx culture and gaming, and includes organizational partners such as Xbox and Niantic.
  • Nuestra Cocina
    A weekly episodic cooking show hosted on Twitch, featuring Latinx content creators and influencers cooking their favourite cultural recipes and talking about growing up Latinx (hosted by Lulaboo)
  • National Latina Day
    Latinx in Gaming teams up with Urban Decay Cosmetics to showcase talented Latinas in gaming and hold talks on culture and music.

Game Jams

  • Quick Play (October 7 – November 18)
    Latinx in Gaming’s first mobile game jam will be awarding $80,000 to mobile game developers of all backgrounds. The opening ceremony will be held over Zoom on October 7th, announcing the game jam’s theme. The event will be hosted through itch.io and four winning teams will receive $20,000 each to help the games be fully developed and published on the Google Play Store.

    There are no requirements to participate – developers of all heritages are encouraged to apply!
