Grant Morrison Returns to Gotham: A New Batman Project Is Coming

In a week already buzzing with Superman Day excitement, comic fans got another jolt of joy: Grant Morrison is returning to DC Comics with a brand-new Batman project. The announcement came straight from one of our favorite sources, Comic Book Couples Counseling, whose hosts Brad and Lisa delivered yet another stellar interview with the legendary writer.

Morrison, whose body of work includes seminal runs like All-Star Superman, The Invisibles, and an unforgettable, mind-bending stretch on Batman, brings a level of cosmic imagination and psychological depth that few creators can match. It’s fitting that the interview dropped on April 18th, Superman Day, because Morrison’s reflections on the Man of Steel offered some of the episode’s best takeaways. In particular, their quote on Superman being a figure of action rather than hope struck a perfect chord: “It’s not called Hope Comics, is it? It’s called Action Comics.”

The discussion also touched on themes of masculinity, as Morrison unpacked how Superman’s presentation as an aspirational male figure has evolved - and how he continues to represent a kind of aspirational kindness and ideal, even in a world that often misunderstands it.

But the headline that has Bat-fans stirring? Morrison teased that they only work on projects that truly interest them, and right now, “it’s a Batman thing.” That’s all we needed to hear.

Whatever this new Batman story ends up being, if it carries the Morrison name, we know it’ll be strange, daring, and unforgettable: just like the Dark Knight deserves.
