Episode 76: Refjorged
Buckle up, this week's session boasts a run time of 5 hours! It's been quite a while since a session has run so long. It took me five days to finally sit down and finish the whole episode. Thank the gods for Dani Carr's Critical Recap to fill in any gaps and condense an intense five hours down to six minutes.
If you are ready with five hours worth of popcorn and drinks then buckle in for a wild ride. The Nein power through several story plot points in this session while also pulling off an all out Ocean's Eleven style heist. The humor in this episode is plentiful with our favorite team ups going balls to the wall during the Jagenoff Heist. We get the classic Nott and Jester insanity that has the two covering up a cold blooded murder. There's also the rare Fjord and Caleb pair up that has just as many humorous moments as the chaotic Nott and Jester fiasco. Plus, there's Caleb, Jester and Reani as adorable bread obsessed bats. It's great to have Liam back at the table this week. As hilarious as Marisha's impersonations were, there's just nothing like Caleb's dry sense of humor lightening the mood at just the right moments.
Mica brought her all to the table once again this week. She's been a fun and vibrant addition to the party for the past three weeks, and now that we are all in love with Reani, she's going to leave. I appreciated how Mercer gave her some memorable one on one moments and let her actions drive the story during certain interactions. She will be dearly missed! Reani the Aasimar druid is a force to be reckoned with and this isn't the last time the Nein will hear from her.
Another big moment during the session was the reforging of the magic sword! Caduceus gifts Fjord his new magical sword, newly reforged using the ice flex and residuum the Nein painstakingly gathered. There was a bit of a scary moment when Fjord was missing after his strange Wildmother Dream/Captain America serum moment. It seems like our scrawny, powerless half-orc passed through the refiner's fire as well. It'll be great to see Fjord grow in his new found class and find his new place in the group. This was an amazing point to end this jam packed episode and a perfect memorable bookend. Now we just have to wait two weeks for the next Mighty Nein episode!
As a reminder, there will be a Vox Machina Dalen's Closet special airing next week! It's the wedding we've been waiting three years to see. Don't miss out, and don't worry, it's almost Thursday.
