Critical Role Review: C2 Episode 62

Episode 62: Domestic Respite
Episode 62. Where do I start. This was a cute episode. The Nein, settling into a home together, getting all cozy, waiting to do some serious espionage. It reminded me of an episode of House Hunters: Xhorhas edition.
If you are looking for a fast paced, action and story filled episode, you can probably just catch the highlights of this episode. It has its adorable moments, Jester painting Yasha a flower mural, Caduceus growing an enormous tree on the roof, but for the most part the story takes a stand still while the group waits for the meet up at the Overcrow. There are some interesting story points during the episode. Jester scrys on the mystery blond Zemnian and overhears more important details. Caleb recognizes that the infiltrators were talking about Empire royal assassins called Scourgers, or Volstruckers as Caleb was once called. Everyone's story lines are quickly becoming entangled and closing in.
Another interesting plot point came about as the Nein infiltrated the Overcrow and found the drug Suude and a large amount of residuum powder, a magical enhancer made of the rock from Whitestone. Uncovering the Overcrow as a drug front has a few implications, but the main mission is still hidden as they wait for the Zemnian's arrival.
Caleb and Beau also have a long discussion about where their loyalties lie now and whether or not they should interfere with the Empire's plots. They both come to the agreement that they cannot stand for the Empire's ruthless attacks and will alert the Bright Queen to the uncovered plot. Though this means that they will put themselves and their Empire allies (like Dairon) in more danger. While it is not surprising that the two Empire kids have taken a hard look at their past relationship with their upbringing, it still remains to be seen how they will bring understanding or peace to both sides. Or maybe we just live in Xhorhas forever now. The Xhorhouse turned out pretty sick actually. Maybe it's better to stay in the land of monsters, who are not so monstrous after all.
While there was a lot of humor and character building in this episode that I did enjoy, I am looking forward to jumping back into the action for next week's episode. It seems like the Nein are ready as well. Caleb and Nott seem raring to get back to Nicodranus and reunite Yeza and her boy and get them to safety. Caleb also seems to feel the Cerberus Assembly breathing down his neck with Jester's letter, and the hint that Scourgers might be on their way to Xhorhas. Beau needs to contact Dairon and....figure herself out. It's still uncertain how Dairon will react to the Nein helping the Dynasty.
Caduceus is still stuck on his quest for broken sword and hidden crematorium answers. His whole story is still quite mysterious, though the broken sword clues have been rather enticing lately. I am very interested to see where that will lead. Maybe we'll get a Cravenedge 2.0! Fjord also has a lot on his plate right now, with Uk'otoa sending very clear and very dangerous messages over the last two weeks. Fjord will have to face down his patron sooner or later.
We'll have to wait and see what the Nein uncover in the next episode of Critical Role! It's almost Thursday!
Don't Miss It!
