Chaos;Child [Blu-Ray Set - Review]

Things got progressively worse until a mysterious, highly-localized earthquake reduced the entire ward to debris and folks began to move on with their lives.Yet, here we are now. A group of high school journalists find themselves on the trail of another spike in bizarre and violent deaths. As they navigate the cursed path ahead, they find themselves mired in the broader conspiracy, and must work to discover the truth while avoiding a horrific end.

Blu-Ray Set Review

It seems like a lifetime ago that I first watched Chaos;Child, catching it in the Winter 2017 season. While the opening episodes were interesting enough, unfortunately it ultimately suffered from the same plague that curses so many other promising series (Izetta immediately comes to mind...). Animation inevitably slips, the storyline is mashed together in a hurry and, without a strong connection to the cast, viewers become disinterested and walk away from the show altogether.So it was with Chaos;Child. The recent Funimation release is simple enough, with your usual opening and ending credits, previews, and alternative art for the blu-ray case.Other than that, much like the show itself, there's nothing special inside.What perplexes me the most about Chaos;Child is that it essentially falls within the same universe as the critically acclaimed Steins;Gate - yet the two couldn't be further apart when it comes to production quality. From character development to animation, storyline and beyond, Steins;Gate is a superb work that is often referred to as a cornerstone series of the last decade. And then you have Chaos;Child. I wanted to like the show, I really did. Yet in watching it again, I found that even my previous enjoyment of the early episodes was tinted due to being fresh off of watching Death Parade. If you're a fan of horror, thrillers, or otherwise enjoy supernatural themes, you may find some redeeming qualities within Chaos;Child. However, I don't think it would warrant the purchase.
