Anime Boston Spotlight Series: Crunchyroll Premiere Panel

Sunday’s list of events included the Crunchyroll Premiere Panel, which boasted some of this season’s most anticipated premieres. As someone who enjoys seeing things before other people to later tell them all about it, I selflessly attended this panel so I could let you know what you had to look forward to. Check out what Crunchyroll has coming down the pipeline!
Magical Girl Ore
Saki Uno is your typical high school girl who dreams of something more. She and her best friend, Sakuyo Mikage are the members of Magical Twin, a pop idol duo. They duo is unpopular, and often overlooked in favor of Sakuyo’s brother Mohiro’s idol duo group. Her mundane life is flipped on its head when the Yakuza nearly bang her door down.Okay, it turns out not to be the Yakuza, but her mom’s former mascot, Kokoro. As it turns out, Saki’s mom used to be a magical girl. Because she is out of commission, Kokoro asks Saki to take up the helm. Her job is to fight cute demons that can suddenly transform into giant muscled behemoths...and they are currently attempting to kidnap Mohiro! As Saki prepares to face them in battle, she finds out that magical girls get their power from confessing their love for their crush. Imagine her surprise when she finds out undergoing a magical girl transformation turns her into a guy!Magical Girl Ore is quite possible going to be one of the best satire anime in existence. It has a similar feel to Excel Saga, both in its self-awareness and in its impossibly adorable villains. I look forward to seeing more of what this season has to offer! Magical Girl Ore premieres on April 2nd.
Food Wars: The Third Plate
The latest season of Food Wars starts off with the students of Polar Star and the rest of Totsuki Teahouse Culinary Academy learning some interesting information. If the students pass the advancement exam and side with Central, they will become first rate chefs. Meanwhile, Yukihira prepares to make a dish for Naikiri that she’ll declare delicious. In a surprising moment for the both of them, Nakiri finds herself enjoying Yukihira’s tempura bowl, and it reminds her that cooking and food should be about enjoyment.As someone who is currently not caught up on Food Wars (I know, I know), it’s hard for me to grasp what is and what isn’t important. That’s the gist of it though. Luckily for you, the newest season starts on April 8th. Hopefully my limited knowledge wets your appetite for what’s to come!
Mob Psycho 100: Reigen the Miraculous Unknown Psychic
In this special OVA episode, Reigen decides he’s going to write a book about all of his adventures, and he needs Mob to be his scribe. As Mob begins to record Reigen’s musings, it soon becomes clear that Mob is nearly written out of the narrative. When Mob is included, he is said to have handled only low level spirits, with Reigen handling the big baddies. This fabrication doesn’t cause our protagonist any frustration in the slightest, and he happily records what Reigen says.This OVA was a really interesting way to do a recap episode. We are able to get a better understanding of how Reigen sees himself and his “abilities”. Similar to Mob’s emotion index, Reigen has a fabrication index, which slowly increases as the episode progresses. At certain points we even see Reigen with his face superimposed over Mob’s, showing how wrong he is recalling the events. Normally I don’t like recaps or clip shows, but this one was incredibly enjoyable.
