Xbox Announces Stream Collider

Xbox is bolstering its original content offerings with a new weekly series they’re calling Stream Collider. What is Stream Collider? Josh Munsee, Senior Manager of Xbox Integrated Marketing states that “In Stream Collider, the worlds of gaming and pop culture influencers collide into a unique ‘show-within-a-stream.’ Stream Collider will be an episodic series that streams live on the Xbox channel on Mixer.”

Each week some of Mixer’s most popular streamers will team up with talented creators and compete in various challenges that will be tied to a big Xbox game release. Of course, with this taking place on Mixer, the audience will be able to participate and help them throughout the stream. Episodes will be hosted by Jon Gabrus.

Stream Collider will debut on Wednesday, December 5, at 6 P.M. PST. First up to bat will be popular YouTube chefs from Feasts of Fiction and full-time Mixer streamer Renee Reynosa. They will be competing to create dishes from Fallout 76 within the game and real-life meals. This episode is appropriately titled “Nuclear Kitchen.”

Considering how poorly Fallout 76 has been received by gamers and reviewers, is it really a good idea to launch a new show with this specific game? It’s easy to imagine quite a bit of trolling coming from viewers regarding the current state of this title. Especially with Mixer being a more interactive streaming service.

Xbox really wants Mixer to be a thing, however it lags far behind other streaming services in popularity. This is clearly a play to use influencers to try and get their audience to give Mixer a shot and win some converts. It’s a good idea, although it’s still going to be tough sledding trying to get people to move over from Twitch or YouTube.
