Xbox Adds 70+ Titles to Backwards Compatibility List
Xbox announced the addition of over 70 games during its 20th anniversary celebration stream. Peggy Lo, Compatibility Program Lead at Xbox said “You asked for more games to be added to the backward compatibility catalog, from top-tier blockbusters to cult classics. And we heard you.”
Xbox continues to deliver for fans by not just delivering backwards compatibility but also adding new features to these older titles:
- Auto HDR for players on Xbox Series X|S.
- Resolution increases dependent on the Xbox console players are using.
- 11 of the newly announced titles will get FPS Boost.
- 26 games already in the catalog will also get FPS Boost.
Of course, for the purists out there who want to enjoy them in their original glory can do that by going into settings and disabling any of these new features.
Some of the standout titles that are going to be newly playable on modern Xbox hardware are:
- Dead or Alive Ultimate
- Dead or Alive 3
- Dead or Alive 4
- Gladius
- Max Payne
- Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
- Max Payne 3
- NIER
- Otogi: Myth of Demons
- Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors
- Skate 2
- TimeSplitters: Future Perfect
- TimeSplitters 2
While getting a new batch of games added to the backwards compatibility list is great news, it wasn’t all good news for fans of this feature. According to Peggy Lo, “This latest and final addition of 70+ titles to the backwards compatibility program was only possible through the passion and feedback from the community.
While we continue to stay focused on preserving and enhancing the art form of games, we have reached the limit of our ability to bring new games to the catalog from the past due to licensing, legal and technical constraints. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.”
Xbox deserves kudos for working hard to bring backwards compatibility to their newest consoles. It’s a nice alternative to the opposite path taken by Sony with the PlayStation 5. You can get the full list of backwards compatible titles here.
