Wishlist Friday! Cool New Games Out This Week! 08/11- 08/17
Welcome to Wishlist Friday! We’re no longer on Wednesdays! I’ve been taking a lot of time to think how I want to do this format, and I think I’ve found something that works. That’s said, please be patient with me. Week from week, I will talk about the indie games coming out that I think are worth adding to your wishlist. There may be ten! There may be two! It’ll just vary depending on what’s coming out.
This week we have four games that I’m very excited about.
Love, Ghostie
Love, Ghostie is a game that looks adorable and by all accounts lives up to that appearance. In this game, players play as a match-making ghost pairing up residents in a house. Reviews mention it being a low-key, enjoyable experience with silly pun-filled writing. The main complaint is the length of the game versus the price. One play through takes between 3–6 hours to see everything. However, reading the game’s description reveals there are different characters each time, and eleven play through are required to see everything. That’s 33–66 hours of content total. Not bad!
Gourdlets
While we’re talking about the cozy games for this week, it would be silly of me not to mention Gourdlets, a no- stakes city builder that invites players to build their town however they want. I’ve been following screenshots for this game on Twitter for years, and I adore the aesthetic and color palettes this game uses. Plus, as someone who always runs their SimCity into the ground, the idea of a city builder where failure is impossible definitely has its own appeal. Plus, it’s only $3.99 right now. My daily smoothie costs more than this game!
Just Crow Things
This week also brings us Just Crow Things, a poop on human's simulator. Well a many things simulator where you’re an obnoxious crow causing chaos and doing lots of pooping. Ha ha poop. This game seems to be in the same vein of Untitled Goose Game, where players solve puzzles and complete objectives across ten sandbox levels. I am all for more games of birds causing chaos.
The Crimson Diamond
The last one of my list is very very niche, but if old school adventure games (think Sierra and Lucas Arts) are your jam, this one is definitely for you. The Crimson Diamond is a mystery adventure game where a reluctant detective goes to the ghost town of Crimson, Ontario to investigate the discovery of a massive diamond. I grew up on these type of old school games, and I’m so excited that they’re still being made.
That is my list for this week! Hopefully I’ve put something new on your radar. See you next week when we’ll do this all again!
