What the Funko? Funimation Continues To Battle Against Tremendous Demand for SDCC Exclusive

By: MithrandielWhile SDCC 2018 may be officially behind us, Funimation finds itself still tangled in its dark web of Exclusive-Hunting fans. With such a large show, there are dozens, even hundreds of appealing exclusives that bring fans of geek culture from all over the world to converge at America's Finest City, and proceed to spend a ridiculous sum of money. However, few were as coveted as Funimation's exclusive: a metallic Whis Funko pop figure.Over the course of the weekend, I lovingly (?) referred to Funko as the "Beanie Babies" of our generation, and along with that distinction comes a level of fandom and frenzy that is hard to match.Funimation first announced the exclusive Funko late last month, allowing the hype to stew for a good 3 weeks before reaching critical mass on Thursday. Lines quickly exploded around the Funimation booth, and things apparently got even more serious after the massive crowds forced the booth to be shut down: first for a couple hours, and then for the remainder of the day.Of course, Funko fanatics were disappointed...to say the least.https://twitter.com/RealMasterShado/status/1020480928378863616To try and address the massive demand, Funimation began issuing tickets that would allow people to purchase the coveted exclusive. Further confusion ensued as fans couldn't seem to find where the tickets were being distributed.Due to the massive confusion and disappointment from their fans, Funimation decided that they would bring the sales online and post them at 10 AM CST today.That...didn't go too well.https://twitter.com/FUNimation/status/1021415680791412737The site traffic also proved to be too much, and before long the towel was thrown in on that front as well.As of right now, Funimation is planning on putting the metallic Whis back online "sometime soon", but unfortunately the weekend has proved to be a series of unfortunate events for Funko Fans looking to add a particularly appealing (and immensely hard-to-get) figure to their collection. How about you? Were you able to snag one of these mythical pieces, or did you get burned? Let us know in the comments!UPDATE (7/24/18) - As of this morning, Funimation officially announced that they will be discontinuing sales of the Metallic Whis Funko pop:https://twitter.com/FUNimation/status/1021848397509263360
