Inspector Waffles returns with a Gameboy Prequel
I’m back again with yet another Kickstarter! This one features the prequel to Inspector Waffles called Inspector Waffles: Early Days. First, some backstory. Inspector Waffles was a point-and-click adventure game from 2021 featuring hardened gumshoe Waffles solving the case of a lifetime. This game, like many indie games, flew under the radar despite being well-received on Steam. I honestly thought that was it for Waffles' story. It surprised and delighted me to discover there is a Kickstarter for a new Inspector Waffles game.
This game is a prequel to the prior game and makes some bold design choices. Rather than being a point-and-click adventure game, this is a top-down Gameboy game with adventure game elements. The screenshots look great, and it really looks like the dev team is making the most of what the hardware offers.
Inspector Waffles: Early Days features Waffles at a different stage in his detective story. It’s his first day on the job, and he’s wet behind the ears. I think it will be interesting to see where he started out and what shaped him.
The Kickstarter has three days left and has met its initial goal. There are options to not only get the new game when released but a key for the previous Inspector Waffles as well. There are even options for physical versions of the new game. I’m very excited about this game and will follow where it goes from here.
