Ultra Mega Cats [First Impressions]

Ultra Mega Cats is an adorable yet brutal roguelite game similar to Risk of Rain 2. Players can choose from a roster of five cats, although the demo only features two. While five characters are displayed on the screen at the start of the demo, only three have been revealed. Kagero, the ninja/rogue archer, and BBKAT, the kitten who operates a mech suit, are the two playable characters in the demo. The third cat, Clint, a cowboy cat voiced by Roger Clark (the voice actor for Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2), has been announced but does not yet have playable content.

As an assassin for the city's mafia, Kagero's abilities center around speed and stealth. She can dash, double jump, and become invisible while leaving traps for enemies. Her health depletes quickly, so using these abilities for escape is recommended; she even has a melee attack in case of encirclement. BBKAT, or Baby Cat, the perpetual kitten, received a robot mech suit as compensation for being experimented on. He is a tank that can withstand and inflict significant damage. His main weapon is a machine gun, and he also has milk grenades, a shield, and kinetic power that allows the player to pick up and throw enemies. The game will feature five unique playable characters and character-specific mods and upgrades. Some will even change character mechanics. For example, a mod can make BBKAT's shield larger and moveable, as opposed to stationary. This allows players to tailor each character to their preferences and playstyles.

The game's levels are 3D roguelite, with enemies approaching from all angles. Ultra Mega Cats follows a classic dungeon system, requiring players to defeat every enemy to advance to the next room. Each room rewards the player with an augment for the duration of the run. The game is challenging and features two-player co-op ( although Three players would be nice ). The home base, accessible outside of a run, allows for character upgrades and mods, but character changes require returning to the main menu. The Ultra Mega Cats demo is promising and suggests the full game will be enjoyable and engaging. The additional characters are eagerly anticipated. Overall, the game shows great potential.
