TwitchCon Spotlight: VainGlory

By: MithrandielMobile gaming has evolved rapidly over the last few years. It wasn't too long ago that the only real games on smartphones were simple swipe and tap games like Temple Run and Angry Birds. Now there are hundreds of immersive titles that feature 3D graphics, impressive soundtracks and console-level depth in terms of story and content. While many genres have made their way onto the mobile platform, one that's continued to struggle is the multiplayer online battle arena, or MOBA. Games like League of Legends and DOTA 2 are exceedingly popular and grow bigger by the day as esports continues to take off - but adapting it to a mobile setting has been challenging. With far less input controls and often small screens to work with in the first place, getting the full breadth of what a MOBA has to offer was a cumbersome challenge that seemed almost insurmountable.vainglory-1Enter VainGlory. Headed up by a team of former League of Legends designers and esports professionals/consultants, VainGlory has successfully taken the MOBA formula and transformed it into a mobile experience. They had a large booth at TwitchCon this year featuring a number of pro esports players and a free coffee bar (very popular indeed!). I had the chance to chat with the Super Evil Megacorp's director of Marketing and Communications, Heini Vesander, about VainGlory. Take a listen to our interview below to hear her take on its recent growth and where the company goes from here:[arve url="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LACwQtFW9xU"]To learn more about VainGlory you can visit their main site hereVainGlory is available on all major mobile platforms including Android and iOS.
