Trepang2 [Review]
Trepang2 is a run-and-gun doom-like game developed by Trepang Studios and published with Team 17. As a soldier who's let loose with no memories and nothing to lose, a gun in hand, and a supernatural ability, nothing can stay in your way as you rip and tear through the baileys and re-pay them in blood for whatever this insane main character has done to him. Trepang 2 has very simple and straightforward abilities. Slow down time and invisibility.
Other than that, the characters are superfast and strong, typical super-soldier stuff. Some things in this game do set it apart from other shooting games, like dual-wielding shotguns! Yes, you read that correctly, DUAL WIELDING SHOTGUNS! You can also grab your enemies and use them as shields while using the shotgun! And you can rag doll throw them across the room when you're finished with someone. The mechanics with the slo-mo were absolutely bonkers and made me feel like a true badass. I ran and did a slide tackle on an enemy; while sliding, I passed underneath him and then turned around while still sliding, I may add and then slowed down time to shoot the guy while he was in midair. After that, I turned back around and jumped over a railing while in slow motion, going over the head of another guy and shooting him in the head. I landed on the other side of that guy and slid on the ground, kicking someone else into a fire extinguisher that was on the wall, causing it to explode. I felt like such a badass! The combat in this game is so good and an absolute thrill. Hell, I like this more than I could ever like Doom or any other game in this genre. This game took me about 3 hours to beat and then I went back though it again.
Trepang 2 does everything I could possibly want it to do, and at the same time, I'm so hopeful for more! I want swords and other weapons in the game. I'd go so far as to say that, combat-wise, Trepang 2 is everything Ghost Runner wanted its combat to be. The over-the-top nature of this game and the fast-paced action are the right amount of insanity needed to keep anyone's adrenaline pumping while playing this game, and it needs to be on all platforms. Bringing this game to the Nintendo Switch would be a real treat, and it would be one of the few shooters for the system.
