Tokyo Mew Mew New Episode 3 Recap and Impressions

Hi ya'll! Did you miss me talking about the best anime of the season, Tokyo Mew Mew New? Over the next few days we're going to be catching up on the series, so strap on in because this show is a ride.

For episode 3 I have good/bad news. Not much happens up until the last seven minutes! Most of the episode focuses on Ichigo's and Aoyama's date at the zoo. Let's be real--these two are about as interesting as a loaf of white bread.

I guess I still have to talk about it.

So they're at the zoo. It's you know, a zoo. It has animals. Aoyama seems very stiff on the date and like he isn't enjoying any of the animals. Luckily there's this cat cafe thing at the zoo, and they talk there. It turns out he was just super nervous to be on a date with Ichigo! Telling her relaxes him, and he returns to his normal self of sharing random animal facts and talking about loving animals. They even almost kiss!

They do not though! The soon-to-be Mew Mew Pudding shows up like a total cockblocker to invite them to her show.

The next scene

Revisiting Mew Mew Pudding (cause I'm sorrynotsorry BUT I'm not remembering multiple names for these characters) has been fun. Thirteen-year-old me found her overly hyperactive and annoying. I had NO taste. Pudding is metal as heck.

As her show proves, she's a danger loving kinda goofy sort of gal. Like...she jumps through hoops of fire. Who lets the little girl have hoops of fire at the zoo? Beats me, but she sure makes the most of it.

Mew Mew Pudding is not the only new character in this episode. This episode introduces one of the aliens attacking the planet, who starts things off with some erm...surprise kissing?

Maybe that's just how they say hi on their planet?

Meet Kish. He's an oversexed little poo who pushes other people's buttons to cure his infinate boredom.

Unfortunately, Ichigo proves to not be that interesting. Kish decides chaos and murder are the answer. I approve. He subsequently turns all the animals in the zoo into chimera animals and then turns on Ichigo.

Ichigo kinda just sits there and lets him almost kill her. No transformation, no dodging, no nothing. Thankfully Mint and Lettuce show up at the last minute and tell her to get her butt in gear.

Mint is still the best

But there are so many zoo animals that our heroes are overwhelmed. They just can't keep up.

The show rushes through the next section! I guess something had to be cut with that long date scene. It's unfortunate as this content is far better.

Ichigo saves Pudding from being stepped on by a chimera elephant. Pudding, who has decided Ichigo is the coolest person ever by now, is moved. The elephant tries to step on Ichigo. Luckily Mew Mew Pudding transforms into her Mew Mew Form in the nick of time.

Golden Tamarian Monkey time.

Pudding rounds up the horde of zoo animals with the power of her tambourine and, well, pudding, leaving the main heroine to turn them back to normal.

The day is saved! Ichigo reunites with Aoyama. She receives a collar as a present, and their relationship social link goes up.

Ooooh he's that type of "animal lover"

As for the episode, it's alright? The pacing is all messed up, and I did nearly fall asleep watching the main couple on their date. That said the second half by far made up for it. I really like Pudding. She's just so happy about everything. For example, she gets waved around by a chimera elephant and thinks it's the best thing ever.

Overall my heart wants me to say it's a 4/5 episode, but it's really more a 3/5 episode, and that's being a teeny tiny bit generous.

Do you agree? Did you like this episode? Dislike it? Let me know in the comments!
