The Pull! [1/1/25]

Happy New Year everyone! My name is Mark, and I’ll be contributing regularly with “The Pull!” - an overview of new comic releases every week on Wednesday.

Since Jan 1st, 2025 is here and just happens to be the first New Comic Day of the year, what better time to kick things off?

One of my New Year’s resolutions is to read more comic books so let’s see what is on The Pull this week!

Starting off with Marvel Comics:
First on my list is The Ultimates #8, this series has been really good with some phenomenal characters and action that is building out the lore of the new ultimate universe. I’m excited for this one because it’s the introduction to the Guardians of the Galaxy of this universe and the line-up is pretty crazy if you ask me.

Second from Marvel this week is Avengers #22, Black Cat becomes an Avenger? Well that’s what the synopsis of this issue says anyways - if true, Black Cat fans are winning!

Third but definitely not least comes a new What if…? Series asking the question: What if Galactus chose different heralds? Making things more interesting is that  first on that list is Hulk!

In terms of what DC has in store us next week:

Justice League: The Atom Project #1, In the wake of Absolute Power’s ending and a bunch of heroes' powers getting mixed up one power that is missing is Captain Atom’s powers and he doesn’t want them to be found but that isn’t stopping both Ray Palmer and Ryan Choi both named the Atom from trying to find it. Sounds interesting and being able to get more Ray Palmer is always a plus in my book!

The other DC comic I want to highlight this week is Absolute Superman #3, each absolute book so far has been great reads with new interpretations of the iconic Trinity of DC and I can’t wait to see how this Superman continues to be the hope in this dark universe in this issue.

Moving away from the big two, let’s get into some indies starting with Image Comics:

You can’t say Image comics without talking about Spawn and it’s long running series, Spawn #360 comes out this week and it looks like the Vampire Kingdom will ascend after the victory Bludd had over Spawn.

The Walking Dead Deluxe #104 is also out this week in all of its beautiful full color glory for the first time!

From Boom Studios we have some new #1s coming out this week!

First off is something rather interesting and pretty cool!

Something is Killing the Children Script book #1 It’s a behind the scenes look at the creation of the series original script!

Next up is something new from writer Gus Moreno is When I lay My Vengeance Upon Thee #1. A disgraced father decides as his penance to become the apprentice to another father who does exorcisms, but his methods are different than what the church teaches, and some say the methods predate the church itself. Sounds chilling and super interesting!

Those are the comics on The Pull this week, which seems like a good crop! What about your list? Anything we should take a look at? Let us know! See you next week!
