The Geekly Grind @ San Diego Comic Con 2019!

By: Mithrandiel

Hello, dear reader. I know we often jump right into business, but I want to just take a moment to thank you for being here. When I started this site in September of 2015 along with one of my best friends, the goal was to talk about my passions, get free stuff, and get access to conventions. I remember in those early months we dreamed of what could be, and one of those "Someday..." items was press access to San Diego Comic Con.

We applied every year since the site was founded, and while we made good progress in our traffic and impact, we were declined 3 years in a row. That is, until this year.

After covering WonderCon, Silicon Valley Comic Con and New York Comic Con, we were granted a press pass just in time for San Diego Comic Con's 50th anniversary - and we are beyond honored and excited to be able to bring coverage to you from one of the biggest and best pop culture shows on earth!

I digress. Let's dive in and take a look at some of the programming we have lined up for the weekend!

Wednesday

FutureTechLive - The Comic Con Playground Preview! FutureTechLive kicks things off starting at 3 PM today with a special media event. We'll capture some pictures and initial reactions to this immersive tech space that features VR, AR, gaming, robotics and more!

Warner Bros Preview Night - Batwoman, Pennyworth, Veronica Mars, Teen Titans GO! and more - With TV mega-hit Supernatural soon making its exit after 15 seasons, Warner Bros. is definitely looking for that "next big thing". It has a host of shows it's showcasing this weekend, starting with the Batwoman premiere tonight! We'll share our initial thoughts on what WB has to offer...

Thursday

Interview with Brian Volk-Weiss - The creative mind behind the hit show The Toys That Made Us, we'll be chatting with Brian about his inspiration, some insights into Season 3, and maybe some hints as to what the new project is...

Interview with Funko Games - We'll be chatting with representatives from Funko Games first thing Thursday! Any requests for rare pops?

IDW Publishing - The Next 20 years What does IDW have in store for the foreseeable future? How about the not-foreseeable future? Wait...

Interview with Aubrey Sitterson and Fico Ossio (No One Left To Fight) - Drawing heavily from Dragonball Z, Aubrey Sitterson and Fico Ossio have created a visually striking new series that asks the question: what happens when there's no one left to fight? We'll be discussing this title with them at length!

Manga Industry Roundtable - There's so much manga and anime out there right now it can be hard to keep up...but isn't that a good thing? Professionals from VIZ Media, Penguin Random House, Yen Press and other publishing companies share their take on the industry as it stands.

Friday

Interview with Gabriel Ba - The Umbrella Academy has garnered quite a bit of attention recently with the Netflix series capturing the imaginations of nerds everywhere. We'll discuss the title with Gabriel, as well as his reactions to its Netflix debut.

Saturday

Interview with Jody Houser - What do Stranger Things and Critical Role have in common? Besides D&D. Both comics were written by Jody Houser! We'll be discussing her work on these titles, as well as her thoughts on the recent episodes of the respective series, on Saturday!

Talks Machina Panel - As proper Critical Role fans, we can't miss an opportunity to catch Brian Foster and the cast discussing their latest D&D shenanigans! It's also been recently announced that Ashley Johnson (who departed for her final season of Blindspot three weeks ago) would be joining the panel. The gang's all here!

Hideo Kojima: Master Storyteller - In what promises to be one of the most...interesting panels of the weekend, Hideo Kojima will be taking the stage to discuss his career as a video game icon, and will no doubt add more mystery to his question mark of a title, Death Stranding.

Sunday

Nothing on the books yet!

A lot of the best work we do is impromptu interviews with independent artists and designers, and you can bet that we will be searching the Exhibit Hall for good opportunities to share the stories of talented creators. If you are one such creator, please, reach out! You can message us on Twitter and we can set up a time to chat.

Again, thank you so much for continuing to come to The Geekly Grind for your anime, video game, and pop culture fix!
