Starship Troopers Continuum [Review]
Star Ship Troopers is now no stranger to the gaming community. With the wild success of Helldivers, people have taken notice of the Starship Troopers movies from the 80s/90s and video games that came out recently on consoles. Now, Star Ship Troopers is back at it again with an amazing VR title that all VR owners should not sleep on. Something unique about this Starship Troopers game is that it's an arcade horde mode game with progression and rouge-like elements. In Starship Troopers Continuum players are the Psy-Commander a psychic that supports other troopers during combat. As your rank increases, you can acquire upgrades and perks that enhance the troopers' effectiveness in battle.
When troopers go on missions and complete them successfully, they will be rewarded with rank and credits that can be spent on weapons. The mission loop has players travel through the stages defeating waves of Archies. Some missions will have you fight a boss or complete an objective, such as planting and defending a nuke. Fortunately, the game remains engaging, and players will find themselves replaying missions in a random order to accumulate credits to purchase additional weapons and upgrades. Troopers only have one life. When the trooper is killed, they will revert to rank one as a newly enlisted soldier, forfeiting the trooper's equipped weapon and perks. This is much like a regular rouge lite game, where even in death you come back stronger for the next run. I found this game to really shine during multiplayer. This isn't a game I would play alone, so it would be best to round up some friends for this one. Starship Troopers Continuum is a great VR experience that you won't want to miss. It's now available for the Meta Quest and will soon be available for the PlayStation VR2.
