Star Wars Bounty Hunter Remastered [Review]

The nostalgia and Charm, Star Wars Bounty Hunter gives right when you boot up the game is incredible. Playing this game for the first time in years and seeing Jango Fett wrangle up to the Lucas Arts logo only to complete it himself is an old-fashioned bit of charm that most devs don’t practice in today’s day and age. Immediately upon starting this game, it is quick to note that the controls are immensely better than they used to be, which is fortunate because the controls in the past were horrendous. However, this does not stop this game from feeling old. It doesn’t feel as dated because of the modernized controls, but everything else is a bit clunky. Luckily, for this review, I will be focusing on the improvements to the game rather than focusing on the general mechanics of a PS2 classic that couldn’t be fixed. The PlayStation 5 version uses haptic feedback and tension on the triggers.

graphically the game has been smoothed out and also the resolution is moved up to 4K, making it much easier to look at. Although, graphically it's still nothing remarkable, at least players won't have to look at the vaseline-smeared visuals the game originally had. Unfortunately, not much has been done to the game but at least all of the small improvements make this title an acceptable playing experience for the current generation. Seeing as though this is a classic Star Wars game, the key to progression is exploration. The game does not hold your hand and allows you to freely explore the world to find the correct route to go. Don’t get me wrong. This is not an open world, by any stretch of the imagination you’re set in generally closed-off linear spaces for each stage but you have to figure out how to navigate them to get from A to point B. Overall this game feels very dated. The new controls are fantastic. I would say this is one of the weakest Star Wars titles in the lineup of recent games.

The confusing mechanics and the lack of explanation on how to use his abilities are awful. When the game starts you have a "boss fight" Jango is thrown into a bit with a monster and the goal isn't even to fight the monster it’s to have it skull bash the wall in the correct spot to escape. Many people told me the monster has a hard-to-see health bar underneath him, after looking through the gameplay I did not have one on the monster? so maybe my game was glitched so this would be another glaring issue.

I would not be surprised if many players spent several minutes on this part of the game and gave up, looked it up online, or got randomly lucky as I did. I just jumped around and got out of the way for like 5 min and then he hit the right spot. This game has many moments like this where you just have to figure it out and maybe you will understand and maybe you won't. With my experience with this game with a little over 8 hours of gameplay I would have to say, get this game on sale.
