[arve url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4Hbz2jLxvQ" /]Warning! Potential spoilers for anyone who knows nothing about Miles MoralesSony has finally dropped a full length trailer for Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse and man did they deliver. When I first heard that Sony would be releasing an animated Spider-Man film while concurrently producing a new live action universe, I thought they were insane. I was clearly wrong to worry. Once I saw the first teaser I was all in. This latest trailer increased my interest and belief that Sony knew exactly what they were doing. Now some of you are thinking, "what do you mean a new live action universe? Spider-Man is back with Marvel and he's in the MCU!" Well here's some clarification. While Sony and Marvel have come to an agreement for Spider-Man to appear in the MCU, Sony has moved forward with their own universe which will be kicked off with Venom in October of this year.  I don't know what's to come with their live action adaptations, but I have a feeling their animated universe is about to explode. There are so many amazing stories and crossovers that can be portrayed in a Spider-Verse franchise. Enough with the set up, lets break down this trailer!

Trailer Breakdown

Right off the bat, Miles Morales introduces us the Ultimate Universe. Many comic book fans will already know about this, but for the average movie goer, this universe is a brand new concept. Peter Parker ain't the only Spider-Man around people! We get some great banter between Miles and his dad. The scene then shifts to Peter Parker's Spider-Man confronting what looks to be Ultimate Goblin. He's pretty much this universe's equivalent to the Green Goblin. After saving Miles, Peter realizes that they share similar abilities.Peter is getting too old for this lifestyle and decides to teach Miles to become the new Spider-Man. We then see a hall of Spidey suits, very much like how Tony Stark displays his Iron Man armors. Miles faces off against what looks to be the Prowler, who in the comics is his uncle. Mile's uncle was recently portrayed by Donald Glover in Spider-Man Homecoming. We then see a glimpse of Miles' camouflage ability. This is exciting as we will be witnessing powers that Peter Parker never had. This demonstrates that Miles is his own unique hero. As Peter is training Miles on how to web swing, Spider-Gwen makes her debut.

Thoughts

This trailer has me unbelievably excited for this film. The humor is hilarious. The music is relevant and exciting. The dialogue is masterful. Don't even get me started on the visuals! It looks like a mashup between claymation and CGI animation in the best way possible. The colors pop and I love the incorporation of comic book panels/excerpts and action words like "BOOM!" when Peter is facing off against Ultimate Goblin. The fusion is done perfectly and I can't wait to see how they utilize that in the film. This movie also looks like it is going to have a lot of heart. Seeing as the teaser trailer appears to show Miles at Peter Parker's grave, get ready for some tear jerking moments.Showing off Miles' camouflage ability makes me believe that we are going to see a lot from his version of Spider-Man that we never got with Peter. If you've read any comic runs with Miles, you know he has a slew of powers that separate him from his predecessor. Near the end of the trailer when Gwen shows up, Miles asks, "how many spider-people are there?" to which Peter responds, "save it for Comic Con." This can be taken a few ways. Maybe it's just a joke for fans who know about the insane number of Spider-Man cosplayers at comic conventions... Or this is a line that will not be in the actual film, but is instead letting us know that Sony will be making a big announcement about their animated universe at San Diego Comic Con. With SDCC coming up on July 19th-22nd, it's believable that Sony is setting themselves up for a grand reveal. There are so man stories and crossovers that they can pull off in a Spider-Verse franchise. I would love to see Spider-Man 2099, Ben Reilly Spider-Man/Scarlet Spider, and Flash Thompson's Agent Venom. An animated universe opens up possibilities and if this film is a hit, you can expect Sony to pump these out yearly. Bottom line, this trailer was amazing and I can't wait for the release on Christmas Day. Let me know what spider-people, heroes or villains you would like to see in this new universe in the comments below. See you at the movies!
