Silicon Valley Comic Con Spotlight: Madame Tussauds

Now imagine pulling yourself out of the mirror and standing right next to a carbon copy of yourself made out of wax. That's what the folks over at Madame Tussauds do. If you're unfamiliar with them, Madame Tussauds is a wax museum found world wide that specializes if wax creations of celebrities and well-known figures throughout history. Initially founded in Lodon by wax sculptor, Marie Tussaud, the company has expanded far and wide and has become a major must-see attraction to any city that has it. If you've never seen these wax figures before, prepare to be amazed as they look exactly like the people they are portraying. We had the pleasure of speaking to Chris Connors, General Manager of Madame Tussauds San Francisco, at Silicon Valley Comic Con.[robo-gallery id="19337"]What brought them to Silicon Valley Comic Con? Well it just so happens that they were ready to unveil their latest creation, a life-sized rendering of Apple inventor and SVCC co-founder, Steve Wozniak. Wow, did this look realistic. You'd think that you would be easily able to tell the difference between a wax figure and a human being, but they do such an amazing job that sometimes you will find yourself having to do a double-take. I found myself walking around their booth and finding myself surprised to see Mark Zuckerberg casually sitting around. ... That is until I realized that it was his wax figure.[iframe id="https://www.youtube.com/embed/QrSLMKEgNyM"]So just how long does it take to create these masterpieces? About three months after all the pictures, measurements, and other necessary details are taken. All that information is then sent to the UK where their master sculptors get to work on creating the next figure. Let me reiterate, it takes three months from the time the UK gets the information to the time that the completed figure lands on the door step of the particular museum. That is an absolutely stunning turn around time for such detailed and life-like wax statues. You'd imagine that shipping these would be a pain, but Madame Tussauds actually works exclusively with one shipping partner who knows exactly how to store and ship the sculptures. Talk about pressure! You would not want to ruin these magnificent pieces.The great thing about visiting a Madame Tussauds location is that you will come across some figures that are exclusive to a particular location, and some that are on loan from other areas. You never know what you might come across when you go into your local Madame Tussauds. One day you may have all the home town icons, and on the next visit you might be surprised with Hollywood stars, Vegas big shots, or celebrities from the other side of the world! Truly a unique exhibit that should not be passed up. If you're in the San Francisco location, for example, you will be met with exclusive icons such as Robin Williams (a young Mork Williams and the older Williams), mayor Ed Lee, Janis Joplin, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, Mark Zuckerburg, and the just newly unveiled Steph Curry from the Golden State Warriors.By far the best thing that the folks at Madame Tussauds love to see? When you're standing there thinking that you're looking at an actual human being only to be surprised when you find out that it is indeed a wax statue. Trust me, it's a very easy mistake to make.
