SDCC@HOME: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Future Is Now Panel
By: RogueSymbiote
I'm not even going to try and hide my immensely positive bias towards the Power Rangers comic book series from Boom! Studios. I love this franchise with a passion and was ecstatic to learn there would be a panel during SDCC at Home. With so many exciting new storylines about to come to fruition in the comic, this panel serves as the ultimate teaser and inside look into the MAJOR direction changes we'll be witnessing this upcoming November.
The panel is moderated by fan favorite Erin Cahill (Time Force Pink) and is rounded out with a fantastic array of Power Ranger comic editors, artists, writers and oh ya, Steve Cardenas (MMPR Red/Zeo Blue). Dafna Pleban (senior editor, BOOM! Studios) and Matthew Levine (editor, BOOM! Studios) break down what it's been like to help mold the Power Rangers' comic from the zero issue back in 2016.
The BRILLIANT author Ryan Parrot joined in to discuss his journey writing Go Go and MMPR and how that has led to him writing both of the new titles (Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers) coming out in November. Parrot relays how Mighty Morphin will continue the MMPR team's story with the addition of a new Green Ranger?! Meanwhile, Power Rangers will explore the journey of the Omega Rangers and their travels throughout space, meeting new heroes, allies and enemies. Artist Marco Renna (Power Rangers) weighs in on how he brought his unique style to the series.
Yet ANOTHER new comic is coming this November, Power Rangers: Sins of the Future. This book will center around the Time Force Rangers, specifically Jen and Wes as they navigate their relationship. The story was developed by Trey Moore, written by Matthew Erman, lettered by Ed Dukeshire, illustrated by Giuseppe Cafaro and colored by Francesco Segala. Erman, Cafaro and Segala join the panel to discuss what they brought to this exciting new story and stemming from a fan favorite season. Some MAJOR elements were revealed including a first look at the brand new Time Force Black Ranger, Cloe.
It was also revealed that this comic will include connections to the Hyperforce RPG web series. Considering that Hyperforce was made up of Time Force cadets, I'm curious if the Time Force Black Cloe and Hyperforce Pink Chloe are one in the same... I know their names are spelled differently in the concept art image, but I can dream can't I? We also got our first look at comic panels from Sins of the Future which look incredible!
