SDCC 2024 Comes to a Close: Day 4 Recap

Just as quickly as it had begun, SDCC’s final day arrived. Determined to make the most of those last few hours, I dove into the day with a full itinerary and a sense of excitement.

Morning Shopping Spree

My morning was dedicated to some serious shopping. First on the agenda was the Hasbro booth, where I managed to snag a few of their exclusive toys. The buzz around the booth was palpable, with collectors and fans alike eager to get their hands on the limited-edition figures, including the GI Joe “Once A Man” figure that was extremely popular all weekend.

Next, I headed over to the DC booth to pick up a couple of exclusives. The Superman Centennial Park Tribute statue and the Old Man Bruce figure from Batman Beyond were absolute must-haves for many shoppers throughout the con, and are great additions to any DC fan's collection.

Artist Alley: Zoe Thorogood and More

After securing my treasures, I made my way to Artist Alley, a personal favorite spot at any convention. Zoe Thorogood was at the top of my list. I eagerly got her signature on my Hack/Slash trade paperback and took a moment to express my admiration for her narrative and visual style. Zoe’s work is consistently captivating, and meeting her in person was a highlight of the day.

I also swung by Daniel Warren Johnson’s table for one last round of signatures. His enthusiasm and warmth are always a joy to experience. Then, I had the pleasure of meeting Matias Bergara, whose illustration work on the series Coda earned him an Eisner nomination back in 2019. His artistic talent is truly remarkable, and adding his signature to my collection was a special moment.

Last-Minute Signings with James Tynion IV

One of the more challenging signatures to secure these days is from the prolific writer James Tynion IV. Fortunately, he was offering a last-minute signing at the BOOM! Studios booth alongside his partner-in-crime on the "Something is Killing the Children" series, Werther Dell'Edera. I seized the opportunity to thank Tynion for his incredible work on "The Nice House on the Lake" and "Department of Truth." He shared some tantalizing hints about upcoming projects, including exciting developments in the ongoing "The Nice House By The Sea." Meeting Tynion was a perfect capstone to my SDCC experience.

A Bittersweet Farewell

After a few more pictures and some aimless wandering through the bustling halls, it was time to head to the trolley station and bid adieu to San Diego Comic Con 2024. Reflecting on the weekend, I felt a mix of joy and nostalgia. The convention had been filled with amazing conversations, awesome connections, and memories that I will treasure for years to come.

With both WonderCon and San Diego Comic Con behind me, a touch of post-con blues was inevitable. However, it won’t last long. In just a few short weeks, I’ll be heading out to PAX West in Seattle, and then New York Comic Con awaits! Con season is far from over, and I can’t wait to take you along on my future adventures.

Thank you for reading, and if you were at SDCC, I hope you had a fantastic time! If you missed out, here’s hoping you’ll join us next year!
