SAO Alternative: Gun Gale Online – Episode 7 – Second Squad Jam [Review/Recap - SPOILERS]
By: v.o.lynnLlenn's determined to do whatever it takes to give Pitohui exactly what she wants, according to M: a thrilling in-game death at Squad Jam 2. To make it happen, Karen recruits Miyu into the world of GGO.M, interested in gearing up Llenn and her teammate for the Squad Jam, leaves the two of them with a healthy allowance in a shady “drop off” location. Fukaziroh (Miyu) puts into a set of automatic grenade-launchers - one for each arm.Fuka, having played mostly Alfheim Online, is really what you would expect out of someone trying a new genre after having been used to a previous (but similar) game system. Additionally, some of her base stats carried over form Alfheim online. A good chunk of the episode is spent on practice with Fuka and Llenn in the sand-wastes, trying to get timing and their team strategy in gear.Much of the second half is introducing us to the new secondary characters that we haven’t met yet, and, of course, Pitohui in all of her pregame glory. The teams SHINC and Memento Mori have a classic smacktalk introduction to each other, followed by the leader of Memento Mori recalling his time on the same side as Pitohui. He recalls her style as ruthless and bloodthirsty, ready to sacrifice the other players in her party in order to defeat the enemy. Her style is the revelry of death, with no regard to her own life, let alone those on her team. If they die, they're a shield. If she dies, she respawns. With only minutes to go before the start of the game, Llenn and Fuka arrive to thunderous applause.Llenn and Pito awkwardly chat a bit before the game, with Llenn promising to kill Pito in SJ2, but Pito's response is more or less to play it cool. It's in-character, casual, and a little off-putting in comparison to M's dramatic online and offline responses to Pito's demands. With the stage set, it's time to enter the game.
