Sakurada Reset: Episode 8 (Review)
By: EyeSpyeAlexThis week’s latest episode of Sakurada Reset wraps up the Witch, Picture, and Red Eye Girl saga…or does it? While, certainly some doors have closed, more have opened and we are left with more questions than answers. Missed my review on last week’s episode and want to catch up? Check it out here! For the end of a three part saga, it was a little anticlimactic. Kei, Haruki, and Murase team up to outsmart and defeat Eri Oka. Outraged at being outsmarted by her senpai, Eri tells Kei to be afraid of her and that she has something planned for him. What she has planned though, we will have to wait to find out. With Eri Oka out of the way for the moment, Kei and crew focus on helping the Witch and Sasano reunite. The Witch is dying, and longs to spend her last week alive with her beloved Sasano. The group breaks into the Bureau, snapping photos along the way, and end up in the Witch’s room. With their mission successful, Kei has Haruki reset. Now, with time reset to their initial meeting, Kei presents the photos to the Witch so that she may use them to escape.Once she has escaped, the Witch and Kei reunite before she heads to Sasano’s. After the Witch tells Kei she will tell him about his future, she drops a surprising bombshell. The Bureau has been planning for her death, and has actively been searching for someone who can see the future to take her place. Unfortunately, this person has died two years ago, but they are trying to work around that. That person is Sumire Soma. The end of this saga left me with a bittersweet feeling, and I feel like that’s what the show was going for. The reunion between Sasano and the Witch is left open-ended as the viewer doesn’t actually see it. Eri Oka may still be a threat to Kei and Haruki, but it’s left with an ambiguous ending. We know that the Bureau is not planning on using Eri as a successor to the Witch, so what actual threat does she pose? I don’t doubt we’ll see Eri again, but I don’t think she poses as big a threat to Kei as she wants him to believe. The biggest mystery surrounds Sumire Soma, who for all we know is dead. Was the Bureau able to save her in time? Has she been kept under wraps to be groomed for her new role? Or, do they have an ability user who has a more powerful version of Haruki’s reset ability? It looks like we’ll have to keep watching to find out.[yasr_multiset setid=11]
