Ramen Daisuki Koizumi San - Episode 6 - [Review]
By: v.o.lynnThis week, Koizumi shows off her German, introduces the girls to a ramen born at a soba shop, and quietly enjoys some breakfast ramen (with the love 'em or hate 'em option of sardines). Speaking of pacing and enjoyable things - This was one of the stronger episodes of Koizumi-san, really packed with information in the second and third parts, but especially the middle one.(Review and Recap - spoilers ahead!)
Part 1 - Morning Ramen
Never one to turn down a unique ramen opportunity, Koizumi-san stops by a 24 hour ramen shop to have breakfast ramen one sleepy morning. The shop's signature is the addition of dried sardines, which catches the attention of a passerby that viewers will recognize as Yuu's brother. I'm a little curious as to whether we'll see the two of them actually interact in the future, the but the "passing ships" moment with softened panels and gentle piano (cut with the sudden image of a sardine painting) was completely perfect for the slice-of-life theme of the show.
Part 2 - Hiyashi
Misa, Yuu, and Jun are all -SO- done with the heat. When Koizumi-san crosses their collective path on the way to eat Hiyashi Ramen, they all sound a little confused. Ramen is hot, usually, right? But in a previous episode (ep 2), Koizumi mentioned ice cream ramen during summer months, so it shouldn't be too surprising to fans that she has a workaround. Hiyashi Ramen, chilled noodles in soup (cooled with ice cubes in this episode). There are actually a ton of recipes online for this ramen if fans wanted to try making their own version of a few of the soups from this part of the episode.
Part 3 - Museum
In part three, the longest part of this episode, is a really nice finishing third act. Koizumi-san sits down for a bowl of Ramen in her Yukata. Suddenly, a mini-Koizumi arrives! A lost little girl that somewhat favors Koizumi-san (Blond hair and a yukata) bumps into the quiet ramen fan. Hannah is quietly curious about Koizumi, and shares her situation. After that, what follows is a really sweet moment between the two of them, ending with a new ramen experience for Koizumi - German sausage, sauerkraut, bacon, in a german-styled ramen shop, and one other flavor - Brooklyn-style Sushi!
