Project Unknown [Early Impressions]

Project Unknown is a Phasmophobia-esc game that is still in early access. It was developed by PsychoRavens and published by Nightmare Studios, and it is still in its early access phase. So, I’m not here to judge the game harshly. The game is very reminiscent of Phasmophobia, where a team of four people goes ghost hunting, bringing different equipment that you can buy and unlock after missions. But, Project Unknown still has its own identity, and I will be looking forward to seeing it develop. My favorite aspect of the game is that there are different characters with differing abilities. My favorite is the character that uses Tarot cards that have a dice-roll mechanic.

I enjoy the chaos and that you can give other people the tarot cards. I can pull the Sun card and get a small light source for a moment, or I can launch a card at a teammate, only for them to pull The Hanged Man and get teleported into the haunted house without any hesitation. Furthermore, I did manage to get myself stuck in a locked closet with this card, though. I could only escape by redrawing another Hanged Man card and teleporting back out.

The game is expected to have some glitches as it is still in Early Access, but it does have some cons to just drawing Tarot cards. The other characters have their differing abilities, like one being followed by a corgi that will bring you cursed items. This is surprisingly helpful since the entire point of the game is to find cursed objects and burn them. After burning enough, you will have exorcised the demon you were sent to take care of. I would love to see more characters added to the game, their unique abilities are what make the game interesting. Project Unknown is currently available in Early Access on Steam. The game is not quite controller-compatible yet, so I recommend either playing with a keyboard or taking the time to get used to the controller’s current controls.
