PAX West Spotlight: Spirit of Midnight
By Rae
Have you ever imagined life as a cat? Lazing about the house, quietly napping… until one day you witness a spirit, the door opens, and you step outside into a wondrous world of magic and creatures. Such is the story of one small housecat in the magical adventure/puzzle game from Good Badger, Spirit of Midnight.
Spirit of Midnight plays like many classic point and clicks – you’ll explore the world finally available to you after a life in your English coastal home, pick up items, and solve puzzles by using and combining items in your inventory. Where it stands out for me is that it’s not a frustrating experience, like some point and click games can be. The puzzles are fun and clever, but nothing I came across in the demo was obscure or something that I thought I couldn’t solve on my own. The game is approachable, fun, and magical.
As your kitty wanders the world, he’ll start meeting forest creatures and making friends with (and sometimes getting frustrated by) those he comes across. From playful ducks to an equally adventurous badger, you’ll meet a wild cast of characters as you try to solve the mystery of the glowing spirit that appeared in the kitchen.
Spirit of Midnight is a wonderful little adventure that uses puzzle solving as a calm step away from hectic days, and an enjoyable relief instead of stressful challenges.
This is definitely one I can’t wait to see the full release of, but for now you can find the demo on the PAX West showfloor or wishlist the game on Steam!
