PAX West Spotlight: No Heroes Here
By: MithrandielTower defense games are fun. Couch co-op games are fun. Therefore, via simple math, couch co-op tower defense games must be really fun! As it turns out, we were able to verify this theory when we sat down to play No Heroes Here - check out our conversation with one of the developers as we take a peek behind the curtain of what it takes to make such an addictive game![arve url="https://youtu.be/Z5UrLVubhPo" /]
Demo - First Impressions
Archmage and I played a 2-player co-op mode as we fumbled around and slowly picked up on the mechanics. Essentially, you need to go through a process to prepare two essential ingredients: gunpowder and cannonballs. Once a cannon is loaded with both it's "prepped" and ready to demolish enemies. As we worked through the best strategy during our first round we often found ourselves overlapping and repeating unnecessary steps. It was a frantic and fun learning curve that ultimately ended in our defeat in the first round. Reflecting on what needed to be done, we went in for a rematch. The second time around we were able to implement what we had learned about the various tasks within the castle. No Heroes Here definitely makes sure that nobody is ever just standing around. Whether you're cleaning a cannon, smelting iron, or refining gunpowder, there's always something to do.With up to 4 players able to play at a time, we can definitely see this being a popular choice for parties, and also a possible friendship-ender as people seemingly forget how to prep a cannon...(looking at you Archmage) All in all, No Heroes Here is loads of fun and will surely leave quite the crater when it lands in a month or two!You can learn more about the game here - make sure to keep your eyes out for it!
