PAX West Spotlight: Digital Extremes (The Amazing Eternals & Survived By)
By: MithrandielDo you like Overwatch? How about playing Magic: The Gathering? What if I told you there's a game that combines the frantic nature of a first person shooter with the strategic elements of a trading card game? I know - sounds too good to be true. That's why when I got to check out The Amazing Eternals (Previously titled Keystone) at the Digital Extremes booth at PAX West I was so impressed. Check out this exclusive gameplay video below with commentary from the developers on what makes this game so unique![arve url="https://youtu.be/P7UxEILf0rc" /]My impression of Digital Extremes went to another level entirely after getting a chance to check out their other major title: Survived By. Rather than explain the premise, I'll let this 60 second (ok 58 seconds) trailer, the same one that got me hooked when I saw it on the show floor, do the talking.[arve url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqzM0UTE734" /]Essentially, Survived By takes the standard MMO formula and turns it on its head by incorporating permadeath as a standard feature. Yes, yes, I know Diablo III does it as well, but what makes Survived By unique is that your character will leave behind specific skills that the new character you create will be able to inherit. The skills left behind will depend on how far you made it with the previous character and how many challenges you were able to complete.I had the chance to walk through a demo of Survived By with Brian from Human Head Studios, the company behind its development.[arve url="https://youtu.be/Dx-iWLIx9ks" /]Overall, I was very impressed with Digital Extremes lineup at PAX this year and can't wait to get my hands on some more!
