PAX West Spotlight: Big Drunk Satanic Massacre
Big Drunk Satanic Massacre looks like one of those games that really wants you to know it's a satire. Within the first few minutes, your character - the son of Satan - makes a joke about how "unoriginal" the explosive barrels are. The game mocks over-the-top immature violent and sexual games while being an over-the-top immature violent and sexual game.
The concept of BDSM (heh) is actually pretty fun. The United States has successfully conquered Hell and a large fast food industry has taken control through their addictive burgers made out of demon meat. You play as the son of Satan who is fed up with your corporate overlords and are looking to shoot everything in sight.
Big Drunk Satanic Massacre promises, well, a massacre. It is a top-down twin-stick shooter with a vast array of guns and enemies. The enemies often feel like bullet sponges and you spend a lot of your time strafing in a circle while whittling down your opponents. For a game with massacre in the title, it makes you feel surprisingly weak.
I will say that the demo of Big Drunk Satanic Massacre looked very good. The environments were well designed, the guns looked cool, and the particle effects were just as flashy as they should be. For those who are looking for pixelated genitalia weapons and over-the-top humor, wherever you are, Big Drunk Satanic Massacre may just be the game for you.
