PAX East Spotlight - Terrorarium

Terrorarium is a real-time strategy game where you develop an army of mushroom creatures called Moogu, and use them to solve puzzles. You play as a space-gardener-grandma, running around a Murder Garden, solving puzzles. Spoilers: many problems can be solved by tossing Moogu at them!

The handful oflevels I played focused on the simple task of trying to reach the end. The endof the level has a evil-space-plant thing that's covered in a barrier. I had tothrow a certain amount of Moogu at the barrier to break it, allowing me tocomplete the level. Thus, the focus on the levels is to try and collect as manyMoogu as required to complete the level, while trying to keep them alive.

It also appears thatthe Moogu are an invasive species, so too many Moogu can cause you to fail thelevel, so maintaining control of the population can potentially be a mechanicencountered.

I saw two different type of Moogu: Thick and Gassy. The Thick Moogu can be used to break obstacles such as stone barriers. The Gassy Moogu can carry the space grandma over obstacles.

The game features a Maker Mode, which allows you to make your own levels. The Maker is the same used to create all of the levels that are in the base game, and appears to have a large number of assets available.

I was able to exchange a few words with Natalie Walschots about the game. Check out the audio interview below, then head over to the Terrorarium website for Discord info, streams, and more.
