Once Upon A Puppet [Review]

Once Upon A Puppet, a 2.5D puzzle-platformer reminiscent of Little Big Planet, The Puppeteer and Little Nightmares. This magical game invites players into a visually enchanting and captivating world. The game's narrative revolves around the intertwined destinies of a seamstress and a mischievous puppet, set against the backdrop of a whimsical, theater-inspired realm. This unique setting incorporates intricate puppeteering mechanics and unravels a truly engaging and magical story.

The game's aesthetic, while tinged with an air of eeriness, maintains a lighthearted and approachable ambiance. The overall difficulty level remains moderate, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of players. Customizable costumes for the main characters add a layer of personalization, allowing players to tailor their aesthetic experience. I had to note, These costumes are collectables and must be discovered. The dialogue is full of witty banter that further enhances player engagement and immersion. Although I will say Once Upon A Puppet would have even greater immersion if the entire game was voice acted.  The core gameplay revolves around navigating the 2.5D environment, solving puzzles, and utilizing platforming skills. The puppeteering mechanics introduce a unique element to the puzzle platformer genre, allowing players to control both the seamstress and the puppet to overcome obstacles and progress through the story.

Once Upon A Puppet places a strong emphasis on narrative and world-building. The relationship between the seamstress and the puppet is central to the story, and their journey through the theater-inspired world reveals secrets about the royal lineage and the Understage.  Once Upon A Puppet is tailored for players who value narrative and world-building over demanding challenges. Its moderate difficulty and accessible atmosphere make it suitable for a wide range of ages and skill levels. The game's emphasis on storytelling and its charming aesthetic are likely to appeal to those seeking a relaxing and immersive gaming experience.
