Nintendo Indie World Direct Announcements 08/27/2024

Nintendo dropped two showcases back to back today–the Indie World Direct and the Partner Direct. We have a lot of announcements to dive into, so let’s get going. This first post will cover the Indie World Direct, and later today I’ll have the Partner Direct article out

Firstly is the free Balatro update Friends of Jimbo. The card game is crossing over with a surprising spread of other games:  Witcher 3, Vampire Survivors, Among Us and Dave the Diver. I have not played Balatro so that’s about all I can say, but hey it seems cool, and the trailer for the update was a lot of fun.

Next up, the devs of Gris announced Neva, a tale of motherhood where Alba protects a wolf cub who named Neva. The wolf cub then turns around and becomes Alba’s guardian. The art for this looks gorgeous, with monsters that look like they came out of Princess Mononoke itself. I think this will be one I pick up. The game is to be released October 15th,2024.

Moth Kubit looks to be the next wacky RPG for the Switch. There’s bug people, a company, and apparently our main character has to save reality itself. While it bills itself as an RPG, there are a lot of different activities shown in the trailer, including doing a dance-off, side scrolling shooting, and drawing a picture. I don’t know how they all interconnect, but I’m sure we’ll find out. This drops Spring 2025

Coffee Talk dev bring us a new game in the series called Coffee Talk Tokyo. The devs is in the direct talked about doing something new with the format.  I’m not sure what those new things are from the trailer. That said, I’m looking forward to a new location and new characters. The Coffee Talk games are some of my favorite games, and I always welcome more from these creators. Coffee Talk Tokyo comes out Spring 2025

Sea of Star characters are going on a new adventure involving a cursed carnival in the free Thores of Watchmaker DLC. The game is beloved for good reason, and more Sea of Stars content is a good thing in my book. Coming Spring 2025

For the definitely not even remotely on mine or anyone else’s bingo card, PowerWash Simulator gets a Shrek themed DLC this Fall. I don’t know anything about PowerWash Simulator—is this something that there actually was demand for? I will admit, though, this seems kinda chill and fun. Maybe this is where I’ll hop onboard the series.

Morsels is a rougelike where mice transform into weird monsters and fight cats. It appears to be a card based top down shooter, which is a pretty neat idea. The art style is pixel based, grungy, and features a lot of body horror, which I love. I also love the piece of music used in the trailer. Top down shooters aren’t really my thing, but they’ve really nailed the ambience here, so maybe I’ll try this one. Coming February 2025.

Date Everything is a dating sim, where you woo, well all the items in your house. In fact, these items transform into very hot people, which I have no complaints about. While definitely a joke game, it looks pretty fun, and hey, it puts new meaning on the idea of never leaving the house. Coming out October 24th 2024

Peglin is a pachinko rougelike RPG that’s been out on PC for a hot minute. It’s finally making its way to the Nintendo Switch today, and will be a timed console exclusive for the time being. This looks really cute and really fun! It also looks like it’ll kick my butt, but hey, that’s part of the rougelike experience, right?

Wobbly Life appear to be a life sim featuring vertically challenged people. This will be out December 2025

Pico Park 2 launches today! This is a cooperative puzzle platformer for up to 8 people at once.

The end of the direct featured a whirlwind of upcoming titles. There’s more Shovel Knight, which to be honest, I’m surprised still has games coming out.

Also coming is Europa, Cusineer, On Your Tail, Metal Slug Tactics, and The Plucky Squire.

The direct ended with an announcement of the port of indie darling Pizza Tower. Glad to see that one finally make its way to the Nintendo Switch. Pizza Tower will be out later today.

What was your favorite part of the Indie World Direct? Let us know on social media! My favorite was Coffee Talk Tokyo. I’ve linked trailers to everything throughout the article, but if you want to see the full direct, click below! (Or not because it didn’t want to work but you can find it on YouTube easily)
