Neon Genesis Evangelion Will Be Launching Onto Netflix in Spring 2019

By: Mithrandiel

Attention anime fans - Netflix announced yesterday that they've landed one of the most iconic anime of all time: Neon Genesis Evangelion!

Despite being such a formative series for anime since its debut in 1995, in the modern landscape of streaming services, Evangelion had yet to find a home. Purchasing the license from GAINAX had a hefty price tag, no doubt, which kept even the likely contenders Crunchyroll and Funimation at bay.

However, after its long dormancy, Netflix has arrived to free the beast and spark a new wave of mind-bamboozlement and passionate discourse. The series will be landing in Spring of 2019, featuring the full series, as well as Evangelion: Death (True) and the infamous End of Evangelion.

The announcement set Twitter ablaze:

With Netflix continuing to step up its anime game, it's a great time to be a fan. It will be great to see the general reaction of newcomers to Evangelion when it arrives - so we can look forward to reaction videos and passionate debates in the coming months.

We have reached out to Mr. Okiura and the corporate communication team at Netflix Japan for comment, and will update this article accordingly.
