My Twin Romance Review
By: ArliMy Twin Romance is a brand new mobile otome game from Genius Inc that was released in December 2017. I stumbled upon the game while browsing for something new to play on my phone while I anxiously await for the Mystic Messenger Ray Route update happening at the end of January. Although it currently only has 1,000+ downloads in the Google Play Store, I was drawn in thanks to the beautifully rendered artwork and the fairly positive 4.7 Star Rating in the Google Play Store. I decided to dive in and give the game a try. Here is my review of My Twin Romance! 
Your character is a young woman working three part-time jobs to make ends meet. She is so tired from working one day while she is walking home she gets lost on a dark road and is nearly attacked by “delinquents” (Your eyes aren’t deceiving you. This is really what they are identified as in the game.) until a mystery man rescues her. And this is where My Twin Romance begins to really fall apart. The writing in My Twin Romance is atrocious. I don’t know of a better way to put it. I have read fanfiction written significantly better and far more cohesive. It also didn’t help the game with their music choice to say at least. A good portion of the soundtrack for the game sounds very, very close to softcore pornography music. You know, the type that would play on Showtime or HBO late at night. So with pairing music choice with the terrible, terrible writing… I couldn’t help but giggle the entire time.
Anyway, back to the story! After being rescued, the mystery man offers to take you to a party with him (Stranger danger anyone?). At the party, you meet Madam Takako, also known as CEO and President of the world a famous clothing brand. After you offer to help clean wine off of her shirt (I’m not kidding), she offers you a job as a live-in servant that is more than the salary of your three jobs combined. And that is where you meet the twins Haru and Yuki who are conveniently her sons. How cute. There isn’t really a prologue to this game. There are a total of four endings: happy, good, twin, and non-ending. Even though this game is a twin romance, I couldn’t help but wish to romance some of the other characters in the game too if I decided to continue playing.Unfortunately, My Twin Romance appears to be heavily reliant on microtransactions and does not offer alternatives for users who can not fund. To replay a story you completed or to continue on a new story you will need a 1 Story Ticket. In addition, there are some premium choices in the game which require Rubies which are separate from a Story Ticket. There is also a Point Conversation System, however, there is no dialogue or explanation of it.
I wish Genius Inc would have considered offering more Rubies at the end of each episode other than 1 Ruby to offset the Premium Choices which cost at least 17 Rubies. Thankfully, Genius Inc is offering to let users play each story without story tickets until January 31st, 2018. If you wanted a chance to go through the routes, this would be a chance without breaking the bank. As for me, I will not be finishing the game. I uninstalled the game before I could complete it. My Twin Romance proves that beautiful artwork can not completely carry the weight of bad storytelling and heavy microtransactions. An Otome game needs to have drama, and a riveting story too. It’s kind of ironic Genius Inc refers to their games as “DramaApps.” The only drama I felt was my inner struggle to play My Twin Romance.
