My Time at Sandrock: Monster Whisperer DLC [Review]

My Time at Sandrock, an engaging and entertaining farming game developed and published by Pathea Games, is getting a new DLC! If you loved My Time at Sandrock like I did then you will be excited for this new content. The Monster Whisperer DLC adds a lot to the game in terms of combat and exploration.

My Time at Sandrock is much more in-depth than your average farming sim. Similar to Rune Factory, you can fight monsters, explore the land, dig through mines, and even build up relationships with the villagers. This DLC mainly affects the combat system and even a bit of the relationship aspect. The Monster Whisperer DLC adds a capture and pet system. Practically any monster out in the wild can be captured by throwing meatballs at them until they love you. You can have up to a team of five monsters with you, rename them if you have a name tag, and even dress them up! And to have a place for them to stay you need to place down a pet apartment, which takes up a decent amount of space, so I suggest you make room accordingly.

The monsters turned pets will defend you with their lives. Once in combat, your pets will take charge and attack the enemies. Don't sweat too much! If your pet's health reaches zero they can either be revived by the player or will get up on their own in due time. The pets are especially helpful when you have multiple pets ganging up on one enemy. This is especially helpful because attacking takes stamina in this game. With multiple creatures to help attack, that just means you will be using way less stamina to kill monsters. Allowing you to have more stamina throughout the day for farming or gathering materials.

Your pets will gain experience as long as they are with you. They don’t even have to do any damage to an enemy you defeat, they will still level up. The more they level up and are with you the more familiar they become with you. Some pets have incredible passive abilities that you can only access once you are good friends with them. So, it’s worth it to train and befriend them.

As I said before this DLC does slightly affect a bit of the relationship aspect of the game. Specifically the relationship with Fang, who is a potential bachelor and the owner of a previously unobtainable pet X the raven. With the new DLC, if you pursue a relationship with Dr. Fang you can obtain X as your pet as well. It may be a small feature but I wanted to include it because it shows the detail that went into the DLC. It isn’t just an afterthought and affects portions of the game that you wouldn’t have thought of. The entire DLC almost feels like a feature of the game rather than other games' DLC that usually add missions that don’t affect the overarching story and gameplay or just simple cosmetics.

I went into the DLC with the expectation that the DLC was simply a way to add pets to the game as a cosmetic but was thoroughly impressed with how integrated the pet system is. For those playing My Time at Sandrock, I would highly recommend the DLC. For those whose favorite part of the game is the combat and exploration then I would even go so far as to say the DLC is a must. It adds so much to the exploration of the game and gives a different experience to fighting enemies.

On a Side note This game dose Palworld better than Palworld. Gamers looking for that Pokemon-esc/ Palworld like experience will get far more substance with My Time at Sandrock’s Monster Whisperer DLC. This gets a 10/10
