My Hero Academia Season 2 Episode 16 (Review)

By; AlanV[yasr_multiset setid=11]All hell is breaking loose in Hosu City after coming under attack from the League of Villains and Stain the Hero Killer. While pro heroes work to fight off the bulk of the villains, the toughest task falls on the shoulders of Deku, Todoroki and Iida. They come face-to-face with Stain and must fight for their lives.Stain is a hell of an opponent to have. Up until now it seemed as if he was just freakishly strong and fast, and combined these abilities with his swordsmanship. However, he has a powerful quirk that makes him even more dangerous. He is able to incapacitate opponents by just licking their blood, and this effect is amplified depending on the blood type of the person he’s fighting. Not only is this quirk that is useful in combat, it also gives Stain a more menacing aura.During the altercation, Iida finally starts to realize how far off the rails he’s gone, but it starts off in an unexpected way. It’s Stain who first points this out to him, remarking how Iida is using his powers in a selfish manner rather than using them for the greater good. To see Stain throw this in Iida’s face is a powerful moment, with the villain illuminating the shortcomings of the hero in training. As chaos continues to engulf Hosu City we get a look at what the League of Villains is up to. At first it seems as if they’ve come along for the ride to create chaos while Stain prowls the city, but it’s quickly revealed what their true purpose is. They’re not at all happy with how their meeting with Stain went, and they will be looking to eliminate him when they get an opening. How Stain will react to their opposition is uncertain. Will he retreat and look to fight the League of Villains and the heroes separately, or will he view this as an opportunity to kill everyone that seems to be on his wish list? It’s difficult to tell because Stain can be both chaotic and methodical all at the same time. This week’s episode is intense. The fighting between Deku, Todoroki and Stain is kinetic and a lot of fun to watch play out. It’s also a treat to see Deku and Todoroki work together against a common foe and see their powers on display. There’s also a lot of emotional intensity with Iida working through his issues. Can’t wait for next week!
