My Hero Academia Season 2 Episode 13 (Review)

By: AlanV[yasr_multiset setid=11]After all the excitement of the sports festival the students of Class 1-A settle back into their daily routines. It’s time for them to choose their hero names, which may or may not stick with them during their careers, because they are receiving offers from hero agencies along with internship opportunities. The usual suspects liven up the episode with the names they decide to take on. Bakugo lets his inner rage shine through, to the point where the teacher requests that he take a second stab at choosing something that isn’t so violent. Obviously his second attempt is just as bad. Ochako arguably ends up with the name that is both inventive and fitting, Urarivity. Once again proving she is Best Girl!As the process of choosing names is taking place we get an opportunity to get a look at a young Deku, who is absolutely killing it with an All Might onesie. It’s just a joy to see him in his younger years and seeing how much being a hero is just a natural part of his personality. It doesn’t advance the plot in any meaningful way, just good ol’ fluff.Speaking of Deku, it’s the name Midoriya chooses to use as he sets off for his internship. While the name didn’t start off as something positive for him, he’s determined to change what it means to him personally, and what it means to the rest of the world. Hopefully his costume is upgraded once his internship is over, because his current one leaves much to be desired.Lying beneath the surface of the good vibes throughout the episode is an underlying tension involving Iida and the health of his older brother. After being attacked by the Hero Killer Stain the status of his brother was unknown, fortunately it’s revealed that he will survive albeit no longer being able to continue as a hero. This has a big impact on Iida. He tries to play it off as everything being OK, but it’s obvious that he isn’t the same Iida we’ve all come to know and love. It isn’t revealed what ideas or thoughts are going on in his head, however it’s obvious that he’s not in a good place. It’s also made evident that something catastrophic is awaiting him.To see Iida have these personality changes and with the possibility of losing him all together is a bummer. He is an incredibly refreshing character and rounds out the rest of the cast nicely. Here’s hoping that he at least survives whatever is coming his way.Episode 13 of My Hero Academia was a fun one. It didn’t necessarily move the plot along, but it did let viewers just enjoy the cast and their awesome personalities.
